The EXAKT 520 Light Polymerization Unit can be used to embed specimens for medical research as well as industrial samples. It’s designed to increase to 16 mm the thickness of specimens embedded in Technovit 7200VLC.

To process thin sections down to 10 µm, the embedded sample must be mounted absolutely precisely and plane-parallel on a slide. The slide is held by vacuum in order to optimally align and fix the sample. The gluing surface of the embedded sample does not need to be prepared beforehand.

When preparing a thin section of tissue next to a biomaterial, making sure that the sample is perfectly presented to the abrasive surface is the ultimate key to success. Also, an optically clear field is essential when looking at the sample under the microscope.

The first photocuring, one-component resin available for embedding tissue or other samples for the EXAKT Cutting/Grinding Technique. This resin will completely infiltrate both hard and soft tissue and polymerize at a temperature below 40° C. It also is compatible with most water-soluble histologic stains.
