FIDO Tech articles
Fairly or unfairly, the water sector gets a rough ride when it comes to a reputation for running with new ideas. It’s regularly highlighted for slowness to adopt advanced technologies. The industry has only given rise to two tech unicorns (a startup valued at over $1bn), compared to more than 380 in the finance sector.
I recently wrote how differences in

Whether it’s reducing emissions, optimizing resources, or generally improving liveability, smart cities are giving everything from road networks to power grids a digital ‘up do’.
But as climate risks intensify, the issue most in need of enhanced resilience is society’s continued reliable access to water. Recent data from CDP reveals that 83% of cities reportin

Four Ways to Cut Non-Revenue Water in A Drought
As drought looms across the UK the pressure on water companies to safeguard water supplies is more critical than ever.
Data-driven tools like FIDO Smart’s Consumption Profiling can help smarten leakage reduction activities by providing timely insight for demand management.
By letting you monitor real-time usage without installing a meter, FIDO Smart makes

The rise of AI solutions will continue, and there is increasing concern about the water and energy needs to power data centers. This concern about the data centers’ water and energy “footprint” is vital to understand the impact of AI’s inevitable progress but it is only part of the picture.
Fortunately, the focus on AI’s water and energy footprint is already driving innovation in new technology solutions. For example, data centers consume approximately 1

Forty per cent of world species depend on the world’s rapidly degrading wetlands, including humans. Water stewardship is already delivering huge benefits in water availability in our communities. Why not do it for nature too?
IF THE SLEW of recent sustainability conference themes and blogs is anything to go by, nature is having a moment.
It’s long overdue. The world’s forests, rivers, oceans and soils provide our food, air and water, as well

After decades of slow adoption of new technologies (US Water Alliance: Accelerate technology adoption to build efficiency and improve water service), the water sector is embracing AI as part of its digital transformation. AI has found its way into many potentially transformative applications, from water utilities to industrial applications, watershed monitoring,

ONE OF my favorite quotes is from William Gibson, the science fiction writer who created the cyberpunk genre and the author of the classic Neuromancer.
“The future has already arrived. It’s just not evenly distributed yet.”
Gibson’s view of the world is accurate, and it motivates me to do my best to connect the do

YOU wouldn’t know it from the agendas of most climate-related events around the world (I’m looking at you COP 29) but there’s more to sustainability than carbon alone.
Brand leaders know this, but even there the debates are heavily dominated by net zero. Water needs a bigger seat at the table.
So, this week, to coincide with a titan on the sustainability conference circuit, Sustainable Brands, I thought I’d spell out the compelling reasons why brands sh

There’s less time to save the Colorado River than it took to build the Hoover dam. Join our radical new inclusive collaboration Water, United.
“There it is. Take it.”
The famous words of William Mulholland, one of the fathers of modern Los Angeles. The ‘it’ he was referring to was not gold, or oil. It was water. An entire river in fact. One which had been diverted 200 miles from the fertile Owens Valley in the eastern Sierra Nevad
