Temperature Control Valves
Temperature Control valves are actuated control valves and are available on the market with or without added dynamic flow control. Both types are common in heating as well as cooling applications and assist in the aim of accurate temperature control. Choice of actuator can be either thermal or electrical depending on the application and one’s budget. FlowCon offers both temperature control valve types. One type is a combined dynamic balancing and temperature control solution and the other is a temperature control solution with equal percentage control. Pressure Independent Control Valves or Pressure Independent Balancing and Control Valves – also commonly known as PICVs (or PIBCVs) – are getting more and more popular in both 2- and 4-pipe heating and cooling applications due to their accurate flow control at any load condition. A good PICV will offer 100% authority no matter the design flow it is set to and regulate with a full control span from 0(2)-10V control signal dependent on actual load requirements. Control mode is traditionally made with a linear control signal, but designs are at present time frequently made with equal percent signal – clearly FlowCon offers both. Dynamic Balancing Valves
Dynamic Balancing or Automatic Balancing Valves – also commonly known as ABVs – are two words for the same thing. Dynamic balancing valves ensure that the design flow will not be exceeded regardless of pressure fluctuations in the system. These valves can be used in basically any construction-based heating or cooling system. Dynamic balancing is – contrary to static balancing – a completely pressure independent solution. This secures a HVAC system free from overflow or starvation even at partial loads. Consequently, equipment will maintain their efficiency, correct temperature is transferred, and the right indoor temperature is secured at lowest possible energy consumption. Another benefit when using automatic balancing is no piping restrictions (no added length of straight pipe before and after the valve), reduced installation time and practically no commissioning time.

With the FlowCon Energy FIT System you will get monitoring, measuring, connectivity and control in one package. FlowCon FIT measures energy usage while monitoring coil performance and adjusts the PICV valve to optimize coil performance. The solution will maintain the correct flow, despite pressure changes and will guarantee that flow change and change in actuator position only occur when demand requirements change or ΔT is outside specification. FlowCon Actuators
Commonly there are two categories of actuators: Thermal or Electrical. Thermal actuators are slow reacting as they are driven by an electric heated wax element. Electrical actuators, which are motor driven, are somewhat faster. For the FlowCon Energy FIT System we offer the Electrical BACnet SM actuators for the PICV (SM.0.0.0.5 and SM.0.0.0.6). Alternatively, the standard Electrical SM actuators (SM.0.0.0.3 and SM.0.0.0.4) can be used. As baseline, all FlowCon actuators are supplied normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO) versions are either available upon request or the change from NC to NO is a built-in feature. Common for most of our actuators is the fact that actuator and valve are developed as a pair to achieve optimal control function.
