Precast Box Culverts are one of the most versatile and cost effective structural precast concrete products on the market today.  Dependable structural integrity, design flexibility and ease of placement lead to significant cost savings on today’s accelerated construction projects.

The various wall thicknesses and design classes can be confusing to those not familiar with reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) designs.  RCP is available in both different wall thickness and design classes.  Regardless of the specified or provided wall thickness, the design class will handle the same specified loading requirements.

Reinforced Concrete Arch Pipe (Arch) is available to design engineers for areas were various constraints may prohibit the use of standard RCP.  Standard Arch pipe is available in an equivalent “B-wall” thickness and Class II thru Class IV designs. Design engineers will often specific Arch pipe in areas of rehab that require additional flow area or areas where a single arch pipe could be utilized in lieu of multiple RCP lines. While the arch shape does provide some structural design benefit, conventional round pipe (RCP) is the most cost-effective solution for most applications.

Reinforced Concrete Elliptical Pipe (Elliptical) is available to design engineers for areas where various constraints may prohibit the use of standard RCP.  Elliptical pipe is available in both horizontal and vertical applications and each option provides the same wall thickness. Horizontal Elliptical pipe is available in Class A thru Class IV designs and Vertical Elliptical pipe is available in Class II thru Class VI.  Vertical Elliptical pipe is only available in 36” thru 60” sizes.
