FOR REC S.P.A. applications

The treatment of municipal solid waste is intended to recover essential raw materials. Forrec has developed a wide range of special plants for recycling municipal solid waste (MSW). The technologies employed by Forrec are aimed at sorting and recovering high quality recyclable municipal and industrial materials suitable for market needs and for energy recovery from non-recyclable dry waste (SRF). Separation of materials takes place using an automatic sorting system, which involves various types of tools: including disc sieves for organic fraction, ballistic separators, iron separators, eddy current separators and a manual sorting system run by operators in fixed positions. Non-recyclable dry waste is conveyed for grinding and reduction in size so that it can be used as solid recovered fuel (SRF).

The correct disposal of end-of-life tyres (ELT) is an important and complex issue.

Proper disposal of electronic waste (WEEE) and of waste in the R4 category, i.e. waste such as electrical and electronic equipment, allows the recovery of a large number of precious metals and components.

FORREC produces systems for the correct treatment of WEEE in the R1 category: refrigerators and electronic cooling appliances in general. WEEE waste in the R1 category may prove to be hazardous if it is not treated with due care. The danger of such appliances is due to the presence of refrigerants that are harmful to the atmosphere (CFC, R21, R22 and R600).

The plastics recycling industry is governed by stringent standards imposing strict regulations to guarantee uniform and clean materials to start the transformation process.

FORREC supplies special turnkey plants and systems that allow grinding and specific treatment of electrical cables and motors. Over the years, the treatment of electrical cables has played an increasingly important role, since it allows the recovery of a specific kind of raw material, including copper, for which there is growing demand. Forrec`s plants can guarantee high standards of quality for product output and for the production of copper with a high degree of purity, using a precise grinding and separation process.

FORREC pays attention to new technologies and regulations protecting against environmental pollution. The result is the production of customised high-performance machines and systems, which allow the treatment of aluminium profiles in order to obtain materials for recycling that can be used in other industrial sectors. FORREC`s plants are intended to reduce the volume of aluminium and select materials for appropriate re-use. Forrec provides systems for the treatment of aluminium waste either loose or in bales. The line has been designed to optimise the product ready for the furnace, a high-density end product that can be treated in combustion furnaces while maintaining its efficiency.

Forrec produces plants for treating hospital and medical waste, featuring maximum production capacity and a high level of automation. The treatment of hospital waste is governed by strict regulations, which foresee the sterilization and disposal of potentially infectious hazardous medical waste. With FORREC plants, potentially infectious and hazardous hospital waste is pre-treated by grinding and conveying through sealed stainless steel screw conveyors, followed by grinding and final refining of the sterilized product. FORREC designs and produces plants for the cold treatment of hospital waste, with a warm humid sterilization process, which is followed by dehydration of materials. This step eliminates the need for an incinerator and avoids emissions into the atmosphere, bringing a significant benefit to the environment. The output material can be used as RDF (refuse-derived fuel).

Printer consumables and empty toner cartridges cannot be grouped with municipal solid waste but require special treatment for recycling. FORREC has designed an exclusive plant that provides specific processing for this type of waste. The system developed and produced by Forrec consists in a treatment with a four-shaft shredder that provides a reduction to less than 40mm allowing the subsequent separation of iron, plastic and non-ferrous materials. A dust suction system is combined with a shredding system.

FORREC designs and produces customised plants for recycling paper. These plants and systems are designed to obtain two different results: the shredding for optimum pressing of waste paper and for the destruction of confidential documents. FORREC designs and produces solutions that are suitable for both applications: shredders, grinders and granulators. The reduction of the size of paper allows an increase of even 25-30% in weight after pressing. In the case of plants for the destruction of confidential documents, they can also achieve sizes of up to 20mm, in compliance with current data protection legislation: legal documents, deeds and bank cheques are some examples of materials that can be made illegible and destroyed with this process.
