GSEM’s Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician course offers a blend of theoretical learning and practical training. The course emphasizes the importance of combining different treatment processes to meet present and future effluent requirements.

Environment Impact Assessment or EIA is the study to predict the effect of a proposed activity/project on the environment. EIA systematically examines both beneficial and adverse consequences of the project and ensures that these effects are taken into account during project design. It helps to identify possible environmental effects of the proposed project, proposes measures to mitigate adverse effects and predicts whether there will be significant adverse environmental effects, even after the mitigation is implemented. By considering the environmental effects of the project and their mitigation early in the project planning cycle, environmental assessment has many benefits, such as protection of environment, optimum utilisation of resources and saving of time and cost of the project.

Environmental Management Plan/Practices (EMP) is a guidance document to measure and achieve compliance with the environmental protection and mitigation requirements of a project, which are typically requirements for project permits/approvals. It is to be done at the project planning and approval application stage to inform regulatory agencies that the proponent has agreed to follow management strategies to avoid and mitigate environmental impacts during project works.

Wastewater treatment is a process, which is being done on the wastewater to change its quality for drinking or other suitable purposes. It takes place in wastewater treatment plants, which should be designed under different circumstances.?Moreover, the characteristics of physical, chemical and biological wastewater also are described.

Environmental monitoring is a tool to assess environmental conditions and trends, support policy development and its implementation. The course is directed at measuring, modelling and assessing the parameters of environmental quality for the purpose of environmental risk assessment. The course introduces the concept of environmental fate and transport and the methods to apply them in environmental risk assessment. The course also discusses the monitoring methods in the context of environmental fate and transport.
