As a leading engineering company, Geostock is involved in all underground storage project stages (new projects or storage facilities in operation), techniques (mined caverns, salt caverns and porous media such as aquifers and depleted fields) and skills. Geostock encompasses the underground skills (geophysics, geology, hydrogeology, geotechnics, underground civil engineering, drilling, reservoir engineering, solution mining), as well as surface facility skills (process, rotating machines, compression, piping, pipe networks, surface civil engineering, electricity, automation, instrumentation, anti-corrosion, materials). More generally, the company possesses all the cross-cutting skills relating to underground storage (integrity test of boreholes before leaching, and tightness test of caverns before commissioning, administrative engineering, safety and environment).

Be it an underground storage facility in a mined cavern, a salt cavern or a porous medium, Geostock supports facility construction from the selection of construction company through to commissioning. Acting most of the time as  owner’s engineer, on-site or from our design office, Geostock checks that the built facility is consistent with the design and the very highest standards. In most cases, this process follows the studies carried out previously by Geostock engineering. Construction management work may also include taking over complete management of the construction process with the mobilisation of a multidisciplinary team in situ to closely supervise the construction company.

With close to 60 years’ experience in the operation of underground storage facilities, Geostock has acquired extensive know-how, reinforced by the unique synergy between its engineering and operations teams. The company harnesses these advantages to initiate and drive a continuous improvement process, while benefiting from feedback from each phase. Intervening throughout the life of an underground storage facility, for all techniques and products, Geostock operates or provides technical assistance services in France and abroad at more than 20 sites in operation.
