GESTRA - Bottom Blowdown Valves
Deposits build up very quickly at the bottom of industrial steam boilers. The way to remove these deposits effectively is by very rapidly opening and closing a valve at the bottom of the boiler, this is called intermittent blowdown. It is an extremely demanding application which requires a robust and reliable product. The GESTRA bottom blowdown valve achieves this by opening very quickly, for just 2 seconds, producing a vacuum at the bottom of the boiler. The resulting suction removes settled sediment, known as sludge, from the bottom of the boiler. When the valve closes its design ensures tight shut-off with no leakage. Opening the valve for longer than 2 seconds has no further effect at reducing blowdown and simply wastes water.

Continual evaporation in the steam generating unit increases the dissolved solids content of the boiler water. If this is not kept to a low level, sediment and scale builds up throughout the steam system. This has a number of effects including: Reduced effectiveness of heat transfer increasing fuel costs. Increased maintenance shutdown and costs due to the requirement to service scaled up products. Production efficiency decreases as heat transfer to critical process becomes less effective. GESTRA`s BAE valves have a wear-resistant nozzle with a geometry and design that are specifically for continuous blowdown applications. It is a reliable solution that can handle arduous, continuous boiler blowdown applications at very high differential pressures.

Safe shut-down of your energy supply is achieved via a separate module, URS 60 or URS 61. The combination of temperature probe and switch is certified to SIL 3 according to IEC 61508. You can operate the system easily and be guided by menus using the separate URB 60 operator terminal.
