Access To Strategic Information Services

GICAN offers its members access to strategic information, so that companies have as much information as possible to make informed decisions.

Export Support Services

International development is a major challenge for the Groupement, as it is a fact that our sector can only grow through its ability to export. For this reason, GICAN offers a number of services designed to support companies in their internationalization, often repeated/explained in the International Committee. In addition to the services already mentioned in access to strategic information (trade show reports, market studies, international watch newsletter), GICAN offers its members the following services:

Public Affairs and Communication Services

As the industry’s representative union, GICAN represents the sector in dealings with public authorities (ministries, central, regional and local administrations) and elected representatives (members of parliament, associations of elected representatives, etc.), at both national and European level. Our aim is to raise awareness of the issues facing our sector and influence decision-making, in order to commit our industry to sustainable development. GICAN organizes numerous meetings and events, and drafts position papers for distribution on these occasions. We meet with groups of parliamentarians from all walks of life in Paris and Brussels, ministerial cabinets, central administrations and other bodies of interest to highlight the challenges facing our civil and military industries: productivity deficit, need for support for innovation and decarbonization, taxonomy issues, competitiveness, recruitment, importance of exports, etc.

Supporting The Development of Productivity and Competitiveness Services

TRAININGS: GICAN offers its members the opportunity to attend training courses, the cost of which is partially or fully covered by the Group. In 2022, in preparation for EURONAVAL, GICAN has set up a training program with SOGENA for employees of exhibiting members.

Supporting The Development of Naval Innovation Services

GICAN ORGANIZES THEMATIC EVENTS ON VARIOUS SUBJECTS: Information on Horizon Europe Calls for Projects (2023/2024 Work Programme). Innovation strategy. Technology webinars: fuel cells, materials, biomimicry, decarbonizing river transport. Drones, etc.

Supporting Attractiveness Services

In line with the needs of its members, GICAN is fully mobilized to promote the professions of the “Industriels de la mer” and to ensure that training courses meet the needs of industry. For several years now, the French shipbuilding industry has been struggling to attract and recruit, but the maritime sector is ready to take up the human resources challenge. The sector is behind the creation of CINav (ex-Campus des Industries Navales), which focuses on pedagogical engineering, with the creation of skill blocks to complement existing training courses, in order to highlight needs in technical occupations.

Support For Regulatory Affairs Services

GICAN participates in regulatory bodies such as the Central Safety Commission, regional safety commissions, specific working groups with French administrations, the Defense Standardization Committee, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and committees set up at European level. These meetings are reported to the members concerned, with the aim of ensuring that the positions taken are in line with members’ needs.

Seastart Accelerator Services

Officially launched on October 3, 2019, SEAstart is GICAN’s start-up gas pedal. Twelve start-ups for promotion #1 and fourteen for promotion #2 stood out after a selection process lasting several months, and were supported by GICAN. The need for GICAN to set up a specific start-up support program arose from a twofold need: Manufacturers are increasingly turning to external innovation to meet the needs of their national and international customers, and even public institutions are adopting a specific innovation strategy, such as the French Ministry of Defence’s Defense Innovation Agency. Many start-ups are unaware of the duality of their innovations and applications, whether civil/military, or the duality between their original and maritime fields of application. For these reasons, GICAN felt it necessary to support promising start-ups and innovative SMEs to help them become part of the French naval industrial fabric, whether civil or military.
