Biological Treatment

Hoffland Environmental manufactures custom designed biological treatment systems to remove organic contamination from wastewater. In the case of sanitary waste, HEI manufactures a complete line of package treatment plants varying from 1000 gallons per day to 500,000 gallons per day. Units up to 50,000 gallons per day are shipped as factory assembled modular units. Units over 100,000 gallons per day are usually assembled on site. Tertiary filters are included when the discharge limitations are very stringent. For industrial wastewater containing high levels of soluble organic products, it is usually more economical for the generator to pre-treat the wastewater, reducing the COD level to less than 500 and significantly reducing the city imposed surcharge. HEI customizes its system for each particular customer.

Membrane Filtration / Reverse Osmosis

If your water treatment requirements require high quality water with a minimum of chemical manipulation then a HEI Reverse Osmosis system may be just what the doctor ordered!

HEI - Inclined Plate Clarifiers

HEI Inclined Plate Clarifiers Use Gravity & Innovative Engineering. A gravity clarifier is the most economical method of removing solids from liquids, using natural gravity as the source of energy and it is free. A clarifier simply provides a non-turbulent zone where heavier than liquid solids, suspended by turbulence, are given sufficient time to settle to a quiescent surface. The HEI inclined plate clarifiers are compact units with multiple layers of settling area utilizing less than 25% of the floor space required by conventional clarifiers.

HEI - Oil Water Separators System

Separation of oil from water in industrial waste streams is an initial step to obtain permit level discharge. Efficient oil/water separation is of prime importance in industrial waste treatment stages often required before final discharge. The HEI corrugated plate separator is a sophisticated, compact, highly efficient gravity settling basin designed to fill this need. The basic design of the HEI corrugated plate separator is shown below. When wastewater enters the separator inlet compartment, the velocity is slowed, allowing large solids to settle out in the sand collection compartment and large oil globules to float to the surface. The influent then passes through a distribution baffle and enters the plate pack compartment.

HEI - Filter Presses System

Sludge Dewatering: Slurries of waste water, such as metal hydroxides, alum sludges are pumped into the chambers of the filter press. The filtrate passes through the filter cloth and the solids are retained. The solids collect on the cloth forming an excellent filter as if one were to intentionally pre-coat the cloth. As additional solids are pumped into the chamber, the solids continue to collect until the entire chamber is full of dewatered solids. The press must then be cleaned and recycled.

HEI - Wastewater Treatment Skid Mounted Units

HEI Wastewater Treatment System (WTS) is a self-contained, automated, chemical conditioning and suspended solids separation system designed to precipitate metals from wastewater solutions for waste disposal and water purification. The HEI WTS unit is designed to process solutions containing either one specific metal or varieties of metals with extreme concentrations. HEI WTS has been condensed into one fully skid-mounted wastewater treatment system complete with lift station, chemical neutralization, flocculation, liquid solid separation, sludge thickening, sludge compaction and dewatering, and central processing unit which automatically controls the entire process.

HEI - Media (Sand) Filters

The HEI low profile gravity flow sand filter continuously filters, by gravity, liquid suspensions producing excellent filtrate while simultaneously and continuously cleaning the filtration bed. HEI’s low profile filter backwashing is a unique process. A slip stream of the most contaminated media, is taken from the bottom, cleaned and automatically redeposited on the top of the filter bed. The filter bed media slowly moves downward as the filtered water moves upward through the bed.

HEI - Hazardous Waste Sludge Dryer Systems

The use of an HEI sludge dryer provides up to a 4 to 1 reduction of sludge volume. This results in a dramatic reduction of sludge disposal and handling costs and provides a rapid payback period. HEI manufactures batch process. The batch process dryers use steam, gas, or electric heat sources.

HEI - Sludge Thickeners System

The HEI Sludge Thickener is an efficient method to gravity concentrate and decant waste sludge. Liquid sludge pumped from a clarifier will have a solids content of 0.5% from cone bottom clarifiers to 2%-4% from the rake bottom clarifiers. The sludge thickener must have sufficient capacity to accumulate and thicken the sludge between filter press cycles. To efficiently operate a filter press, the solids concentration in the filter press feed should approach 10% solids by weight.

HEI - Reverse Osmosis Membrane Systems

If your water treatment requirements require high quality water with a minimum of chemical manipulation then a HEI Reverse Osmosis (RO) system may be just what the doctor ordered!
