Iron and manganese typically fall into the category of secondary contaminants, but they can still cause problems for municipal and private drinking water treatment systems. While not a health risk, high concentrations of iron and manganese can create unpleasant color, taste and odor in drinking water, leading to complaints from customers and damaging the public’s trust in their water systems.

And that’s not all. When left to form deposits, iron and manganese can build up in

There are three drain monitoring systems installed on the Northampton site which are serviced quarterly by Partech Engineers. There are regulations set by government entities to protect life and the environment and so the systems are in place to monitor for accidental contamination spillage making it’s way down the drains and into the River Nene.

The systems installed on the site are able to detect beer, diesel, oil and other contaminants in the drains by way of a

The two Danish companies; Danish Aerospace Company ApS (DAC) and Aquaporin Space Alliance ApS (ASA) have been tasked by ESA to develop a breadboard model of a water recycling unit for space applications. If successful this could lead to a new type of open water recycling system for future testing on the International Space Station and eventually use on human voyages further out into the Solar System.

The two companies will spend the next six months desi

At Partech we understand the need for simple, low cost methods for sludge blanket monitoring in a wide variety of settlement tanks. It its important to have reliable detection in order to de-sludge tanks at the most beneficial time, reducing costs and unnecessary work at a later stage in the cleaning process.

A sludge interface that is too high can result in pollution incidents caused by carry-over from a final settlement tank into the final effluent channel. The

This month we are focusing on the control of sludge blanket build up in Lamella Clarifiers. Lamella Clarifiers, also known as Inclined Plate Separators (IPS) are in common use at Waste Water Treatment Sites as small footprint plant settlement units and are often employed in place of conventional settling tanks.

Controlling Sludge Blanket Build up

Effluent enters the Lamella Clarifier via an inlet pipe, entering the plates through the si
