Flood risks are increasing. We cannot eliminate them, but we can reduce them by precautionary measures, adapted use, information, and protection. Flood risk management has become a core issue for INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT in the course of the last fifteen years. We are among the leading companies handling spatial aspects of flood risk management in Europe.We have developed tools, instruments and strategies for flood risk management in projects for German federal states, the Federal Environment Agency, the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, the Federal Environment Ministry, as well as for Dutch and other European clients.We offer support in the implementation of the EU Flood Risk Management Directive strategically with implementation concepts and tools as well as practically with the development of risk management plans.

On the one hand, a region benefits from the airport as an important employer and location factor. On the other, the residents are negatively affected by aircraft noise. INFRASTRUKTUR & UMWELT offers support in transportation-related projects, from the initial concept via strategy formulation and preliminary design right down to the analysis of noise harassment.

While safe disposal used to be the most important challenge, the recycling and waste management era heralded paradigm changes: Priority is now given to waste recycling as well as to the reorganization of waste disposal markets and to the redefinition of tasks. Urbanization is a worldwide phenomenon. Urban settlements are virtually exploding particularly in developing and newly industrializing countries, not only because of natural population growth but also because of rural-urban migration. Central supply and disposal systems developed in the industrialized countries in the early 20th century, are insufficiently flexible for this development and have lost their exemplary character even in industrialized countries, where demographic change is less dramatic.
