The Asphalt Compatibility Tester (ACT) is a fast, straightforward method to evaluate the adhesion properties of asphalt binder and aggregates in the mixture. This test uses LED light and detection system to measure the color change that may occur as a result of ASTM D 3625 (Boil Test Method). The Boil Test is an established test method that many state agencies require to quickly measure the adhesion strength of the asphalt binder to the aggregate surface. Currently, percent binder loss is determined visually by an operator.  Visual inspection is inaccurate and subjective. The InstroTek ACT reports a binder Loss Index value (L*) that is independent of operator judgment. Simply load the mixture, place the detection system on the sample and get your results in seconds. 

Quickly and easily replicates the conditions of field compaction. Asphalt engineers know the importance of a representative sample during any laboratory performance testing. The precise shearing motion of the ASC replicates the conditions of field compaction in order to reproduce the field properties of asphalt, quickly and easily under the controlled conditions of a laboratory.

The Asphalt Roller Compactor (ARC), now available through InstroTek, Inc., is the first unit developed based entirely on an electro-mechanical system. The compactor does not require hydraulic fluids or air pressure, which allows the users to produce repeatable and consistent samples. The asphalt slab produced with this compactor is much more representative; with aggregate orientation similar to samples compacted in the field. This fully automatic and user friendly system compacts using a segmented roller with alternating rotation, simulating the action of large rollers used for compaction of asphalt pavements. The compacted slabs can be used for rut testing, cored for standard laboratory tests or cut to obtain beam samples for beam fatigue testing.

The AutoXtract is an innovative device that automates the processes associated with asphalt extraction and recovery. The unit has been designed for the determination of asphalt content in mixtures as well as the characterization of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) properties. This closed-loop system eliminates the need for fume hoods and keeps harmful vapors away from operators. The asphalt mixture is placed inside the chamber, and in less than an hour, the AutoXtract produces accurate asphalt content results and clean, dry aggregates ready for sifting operations. Test results are exported to a .txt file to create customized reports.
