Intek was founded in 1976, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Harpster, with the goal of integrating advanced technologies to solve complex measurement problems. In early 1978, a major oil company approached Intek with a flow problem. The solution led to the development of Rheotherm flow instruments: flow meters and flow switches. The Company has built a reputation for highly accurate and reliable flow measurement systems, capable of operating at low flow rates and compatible with most industrial chemicals and gases. Intek’s instruments and services help customers in a wide range of industries, including Power Generation, Nuclear, Chemical/Petrochemical, Pulp & Paper, Semiconductor, Consumer Products/Packaging, and Water/Wastewater. Our experience and engineering skill also allow us to design custom flow solutions for customers with unique flow specifications
A flow application problem at a power generation plant led to the development of Intek's other major line of business: RheoVac systems and services for power plant condensers. These flow instruments and services help power plants optimize the operation of their steam surface condensers, improving heat rate and reducing operating and maintenance costs.
Intek is committed to maintaining a high level of technical excellence and customer service. Our quality assurance program is certified to ISO 9001:2008. We are active in supplying flow meters for the nuclear industry measuring fluids that expose sensorsIntek owners Joseph and Marilyn Harpster accept award from astronaut Bob Cabana and Boeing's ISS Vice President and General Manager Brewster Shaw. to over 100 Mrad (lifetime). In addition, the company has manufactured equipment for the space program to the rigorous requirements for NASA manned spacecraft. On the first anniversary of the on-orbit Space Station, Intek was one of only two companies recognized by Boeing with the Exceptional Company Performance Award, for excelling in technical, cost and schedule performance.
Intek takes pride in its involvement with the community. Each year, Intek provides scholarships to the students who stand out at a local middle school science fair. Intek employees also enjoy volunteering their time to judge the submitted science projects.
Intek manufactures flow instruments for a variety of applications. A few key ones are listed here.
Measurement of condenser air in-leakage and other parameters provides critical information to aid in operating a steam surface condenser at peak efficiency. RheoVac instruments are a complete solution for monitoring condenser exhaust.
Chemical / Petrochemical
Chemical compatibility and low maintenance sensor designs make Rheotherm flow meters and flow switches ideal for most chemical applications, including aggressive environments.
Water / Wastewater Treatment
From the low flow measurement of chemical additives, to the demanding conditions of digester gas service, Rheotherm flow meters and flow switches provide useful solutions to the water/wastewater industry.
Biotech / Pharmaceutical
Our TU and TUL flow sensors have an unrestricted tube design that is ideal for chemical or steam sterilization.
Pulp & Paper
Rheotherm flow meters and flow switches are ideal for measuring the low flow of anything from antifoamers to hardeners to dyes.
Since the early 1980’s, Rheotherm flow meters with radiation hardened sensors have been used in services such as UF6, fuel reprocessing, and nuclear power plant vent gas.
Food and Beverage Processing
The TU and TUL flow sensor design, with 316 SS wetted surface and no internal seals or other perturbations, can be easily cleaned and sterilized.
Sensor wetted material options include 316L SS UHP, Hastelloy C-276 and quartz. We can even use your tubing, so the sensor material will be from the same heat number as the rest of the system.
