Waterfowl Habitat Services

Waterfowl habitat is more than just a pond, it is a complex of vegetated shallows and open water designed specifically to attract birds by providing food and a secure roost. Intermountain Aquatics has the expertise to create wetland and pond systems that will attract waterfowl to your property. Our experience in creating species-specific habitat components, deciphering and transferring water rights, understanding soil and seepage dynamics and wetland revegetation has resulted in the construction of wetlands throughout the intermountain west that function ecologically and blend aesthetically with their surrounding landscape. We specialize in wetland restoration and creation, as well as the enhancement of existing systems that are currently not meeting wildlife or aesthetic goals.

Trout Habitat Services

Trout thrive in streams that provide clear, cold water with cover, feeding runs, resting holes, spawning beds and juvenile rearing habitat. Intermountain Aquatics carefully considers factors limiting to trout and uses specialized design techniques to integrate missing components into your stream reach. Each design incorporates the needs of the angler as well as the fish, considering scenic quality, stream access, casting lanes and habitat diversity. The ultimate goal of our trout habitat projects is to create quality habitat utilized and naturally supported by existing wild trout populations.

Upland Game Bird Habitat Services

Whether you manage a commercial shooting preserve, public refuge or waste areas on a farm, Intermountain Aquatics can enhance your sporting opportunities. Lack of suitable vegetative cover, food or water resources usually limits upland game bird populations. The structure provided by high quality plant cover shelters game birds from predators and harsh weather and can also greatly improve reproductive success. Because habitat needs for pheasants and sharptail grouse are different from those of Huns, quail and chukar, Intermountain Aquatics designs projects that are species specific. Our projects aim to replicate other natural habitats known to support high production within a given region. To achieve success Intermountain Aquatics owns and operates revegetation equipment specialized for rough terrain and difficult working conditions.

Big Game & Non-Game Wildlife Habitat Services

Wildlife habitat improvement projects are constructed to meet client goals. Whether the specific goal is restoration of big game winter range, re-invigoration of decadent Aspen stands for songbirds or creation of trumpeter swan nesting habitat, Intermountain Aquatics has the tools and commitment to complete successful habitat projects. We design and implement management techniques with measurable results, which allows us to monitor and adapt our management strategies.

Wetland Delinneation, Permitting & Mitigation Services

Intermountain Aquatics` consultants have specialized training in the delineation of jurisdictional wetlands according to standards set by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The purpose of a wetland delineation is to identify, characterize and map the extent of jurisdictional wetlands in a given project area. A wetland delineation is often required prior to the issuance of a permit to disturb wetlands. Intermountain Aquatics conducts project-specific impact assessments to determine the permits required. We act on your behalf and serve as liaison to the regulatory agencies to prepare applications and obtain the appropriate permits for your project. The realization that wetlands provide a wide array of societal benefits has sparked an unprecedented interest in wetland mitigation in recent years. Regulatory agencies, including the Corps, usually require mitigation of wetland functions lost to development. Intermountain Aquatics has expertise in designing and constructing mitigation projects that not only satisfy regulatory permit conditions but also provide valuable habitat and aesthetic values.

Integrated Weed Management Services

Noxious weeds (e.g. thistles, knapweeds, leafy spurge) are a serious problem in the western United States. The U.S. government estimates that 4,600 acres per day are lost on public lands to invasive plants. These plants severely threaten biodiversity, habitat quality, range condition and ecosystem functions. On restoration and enhancement projects weed infestations can preclude achieving the desired management goal. At Intermountain Aquatics, revegetation and weed control go hand in hand through the plant establishment phase of any project. We implement effective weed control strategies to assure that ecological functions are maintained and habitat objectives are achieved. We also offer comprehensive weed control services on both small and large parcels including herbicide spraying, manual and mechanical weed removal and biological weed control. We develop and implement effective short and long-term strategies that can control the noxious weed communities on your property. IMA employs goal-based adaptive management monitoring to ensure cost-effective long-term control.
