International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) training

Training at Annual Conferences: IAIA offers 8-12 training courses each year in conjunction with its annual conference. These one- or two-day courses cover a range of aspects regarding impact assessment and may be beginner, intermediate, or advanced in level. Specific courses offered at each conference can be viewed at the home page for each conference, under the "Training Courses" heading.

IAIA shares the expertise of its members through a series of webinars throughout the year. These webinars are live events, often with interactive Q&A sections for attendee involvement. Recordings of past webinars are also available on demand, with archived webinars dating back to 2015.

IAIA’s Professional Development Program (PDP) is designed to provide online training for individuals involved in carrying out, reviewing, or otherwise participating in EIA and related studies of projects.  This 12-week "Foundations of Impact Assessment" course is incredibly popular due to the popularity of the course content and because each trainee is paired with an expert trainer in IA, so make sure to register early.

The purpose of the “Foundations of Impact Assessment” course of IAIA’s online Professional Development Program is to provide people involved in environmental impact assessment (EIA) with training in the basic “tools” needed to carry out their EIA responsibilities. This course is intended to provide the knowledge of EIA methods expected of an IA Practitioner or IA Administrator identified in IAIA’s Guideline Standards for IA Professionals. Managing or participating in an EIA study or review process requires both knowledge and experience, so it is not expected that the course will equip you with the expertise to lead an EIA study or review. Rather, it will support you in participating effectively in the multi-disciplinary undertaking that an EIA always involves, and to learn and grow through experience into an EIA leadership role.

The IAIA Work Experience Program allows IAIA members who complete specific projects of benefit to the IAIA to be recognized through: 1. A certificate acknowledging the work, and 2. The ability to include that project as professional work on their CV.

In an effort to provide more online, interactive training opportunities, IAIA is proud to debut of its new Online Training Courses (OTC). These courses will be held over multiple sessions for a 1-3 week period of time and will have small class sizes to encourage participation among participants as well as with the instructor. Topics will cover a wide variety of impact assessment areas, as well as options for foundation, intermediate, and advanced level content.

The purpose of the “Social Impact Assessment” course of IAIA’s online Professional Development Program is to provide people involved in social impact assessment (SIA) with training and insight in the basic “tools” needed to carry out their SIA responsibilities. It also serves as an introduction to SIA for people just entering the field and professionals that manage Social and Environmental Impact Management Processes. Managing or participating in a SIA study or review process requires both knowledge and experience, so it is not expected that the course will equip you with the expertise to lead a SIA study or review. It will equip you with a clear understanding of the SIA Process and what it involves and provide a solid foundation to develop your professional skills further.
