Preservation

Ionized products offer excellent microbiological quality that allows a better response to sanitary requirements and a reduction of bacteriological controls during manufacture. This bacteria contamination removal and this disinsectisation preserve the organoleptic and nutritional properties.

Crosslinking

A number of research programmes are currently underway with a view to broadening the chemical applications. Ionization : improves the mechanical characteristics of thermoplastic films, makes possible cold hardening of resins, favours polymer crosslinking, enables grafting onto textiles

Sterilization

Ethylene Oxide

Wishing to answer all the requests of its customers, the Ionisos group, French leader of sterilisation by ionisation (gamma and beta) possesses two units of sterilisation with ethylene oxide : The Gien capabilities are: Receiving capabilities to receive shipping containers and putting on pallets packaging before preparation and processing. Pre-processing capacities of 6×18 pallets. Processing capabilities with 3 units of 1×17 pallets and 2×18 pallets. Two 18-pallet dynamic aeration cells based on vacuum cycles and temperature control. These autoclaves make it possible to obtain desorption within less than 24 hours of difficult products both by the materials used and by the design and processing of the devices. A dynamic storage capacity of 150 pallets with temperature control and ventilation.

Beta Rays

Products to be ionized using beta rays (accelerated electron beams) are exposed at controlled speed to the beta radiation. The beta rays are generated from an electron beam machine. The emitted electrons have one energy level: 9.8 Mev +/- 0.2. An automatic system of conveyors moves the products into irradiation cell, where they are passed under the electron beam according to the specified speed. The speed depends on the dose level and nature of the product. The treatment is generally carried out in two passes under the beam: the product, typically in its cardboard box passes by the electron beam, following witch it is inverted and the opposite side of the cardboard box is treated, in what is know as double-side treatment.

Gamma Rays Sterilization

The process of ionization consists in exposing the products to be treated with the gamma radiations emitted by a source of Cobalt 60The emitted photons have two energy levels: 1,17 and 1,33 MeV. Note: Energy levels higher than 10 MeV are required to induce radioactivity in the exposed product. Therefore, gamma ray photons are of too low energy to induce any radioactivity in the treated products. These gamma rays allow the sterilization of medical material, cosmetic and pharmaceuticals products. During the time products are being treated, the source is maintained raised in the air in the centre of the treatment cell. When product treatment is not required, the source is lowered into the pool of water.  The water functions as a radiological shield.
