Our quality pin-holes are laser-drilled into 302 stainless steel substrates with thinning at the aperture for increased sharpness and definition. Pin-holes smaller than 3µm are manufactured from nickel. Pin-hole apertures offer control of beam size to help limit saturation of detectors in applications such as imaging.

Precision grade plate beam splitters offer higher flatness and parallel specifications particularly useful in laser and imaging applications. Both faces of these precision beamsplitters are polished to a high degree of flatness of λ/4 and have excellent surface quality. Precision splitters are made from high quality optically polished BK7 with both surfaces controlled to a high degree of parallelism.

Acrylic colour filters are similar to colour glass filters, achieving their colouration by the use of dyes during the manufacturing process. Acrylic filters are cheaper than glass filters, easier to cut to special sizes and shapes but not quite as robust as glass. Knight Optical offers these carefully designed NIR bandpass filters for use in ANPR/ALPR camera applications.  Designed specifically to work at maximum efficiency transmitting over 90% at the commonly used LED wavelengths of 740nm, 850nm 870nm or 940nm.

These fire-polished aspheric lenses are glass lenses manufactured by a simple moulding process and polished by heating just enough to melt the surface and allow surface tension to smooth out defects. Usually these lenses have a very large diameter compared with the focal length. Fire polished aspheric lenses have large apertures so are ideal for light collecting applicatons such as condenser lenses in LED based projectors.  The second face of the plano-convex type is optically polished for improved quality. Knight Optical stock a full range of both thermally toughened aspheric lenses and un-toughened fire polished aspheric lenses. Our high precision stage graticules are manufactured by photolithographically printing a pattern onto a thin glass substrate. Stage graticules are commonly used for measurement and calibration in microscopy and video imaging applications. They can also be used in loupes, magnifiers and similar handheld measuring tools.
