A high-performance resin first industrialized by Kuraray, used as a raw material in the production of PVA fiber. Uncommonly for a synthetic resin, it is water soluble, and has superior adhesiveness, emulsiveness, oil resistance, and alkali resistance. It is a raw material in the production of butyral resin and PVA fiber and film, and is used as a fiber sizing agent, paper processing agent, stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride polymerization, and raw material for adhesives, as well as a broad range of other industrial applications.

GENESTAR is a proprietary polyamide resin developed by Kuraray. This synthetic resin is highly resistant to heat, water, and abrasion, yet easily molded. GENESTAR is widely used in connectors for electronic and electrical devices such as personal computers, digital cameras, and mobile telephones. In recent years, the development of GENESTAR auto parts has progressed, and we expect such applications to increase.

Kuraray was first to commercialize synthetic fibers made from poval resin. KURALON displays high tenacity, low elongation, hydrophilic properties, weather resistance, and alkali resistance, and is used in a broad spectrum of industrial applications. KURALON is used as a cement and concrete reinforcing agent in place of asbestos, in alkaline battery separators, as a reinforcing agent in rubber, and to make rope and fishing nets.

SEPTON is a styrene thermoplastic elastomer developed by Kuraray"s proprietary technology. SEPTON has the elasticity of rubber, yet can be molded like plastic by heating it. It displays excellent heat resistance, weather resistance and chemical resistance, while boasting high electrical insulation properties.

Kuraray Chemical specializes in the manufacture of activated carbon, offering KURARAY COAL brand activated carbon, which is made from coconuts shell, coal, and special synthetic resins. This material is used for the treatment of drinking and waste water, adsorption and elimination of gases and chemicals, and recently to make electrodes carbon for the electric double layer capacitors used as auxiliary power sources in hybrid cars and fuel cell cars. As an activated carbon fiber, KURARAY COAL is used in combination with non-woven fabrics to make functional products such as filters and molded products. Kuraray Chemical offers other products that use activated carbon, including the pressure swing adsorption nitrogen gas separator.
