Highway Sanitation
Highway Sanitation was a unit under Waste Management Services Department before it became a department of its own last year. It commenced its operation in September 2006, with the appointment of “Litter Marshals” charged with the responsibility of cleaning the highways. The “Litter Marshals” programme was aimed to focus on where littering was problematic and challenging for LAWMA, and due to its success, a new private partnership initiative was born. Over 90 companies (private sector participant) referred to as “service providers” have registered with LAWMA to provide cleaning/sweeping services at various strategic locations (highways and streets) in the state. About 5000 workers have been employed by these companies. The service of which has been adding value to the cleanliness of Lagos State.Landfill Operations
Landfill\Dumpsite Management is a unit under Waste Management Services. There are 3 major landfills and 2 temporary sites serving Lagos State.Maintainance & Engineering
Maintenance is the heart beat of Lagos Waste Management Authority. i.e. the Engineering Services keep the Authority going through regular repairs of Authority’s trucks or by carrying out regular repairs on the Authority’s operational and commercial fleets of trucks which may come in form of preventive and corrective maintenance in all our Three Workshops. Engineering Services have three functional workshops strategically located within Lagos Metropolis to cater for maintenance and for quick response for repair needs of our trucks anytime of the day.Medical Waste Management
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Medical Waste Management Unit has been working jointly with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, the Hospital Facility Accreditation and Monitoring Agency (HEFEMA), Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Lagos State Environmental Pollution Agency (LASEPA) and John Snow Incorporated (NGO) in development of a consistent regulatory approach to ensure proper management of hazardous waste generated at all healthcare facilities in Lagos State
Monitoring & Enforcement Services
The Lagos Waste Management Authority Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance Department was created in July 2005 by the then General Manager Mr. Ola Oresanya. The strength of the staff in this Department was 50.
