Leachate Management Specialists, LLC (LMS) services

A large portion of landfill operational budgets is consumed by the cost of handling leachate, the liquid that drains from a landfill. Leachate management accounts for approximately 35% of a landfill’s annual non-labor operating expenses, and can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars for an individual landfill.

Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have gained a lot of attention recently and there are many groups and agencies working hard to fully understand the science behind the compounds, impacts to the environment and public health, how widespread they are, and the best management strategies to remove them.  As USEPA continues with its roadmap, state and local agencies are driving their regulations forward, with some limits much stricter than the current federal health advisory level of 70 ppt.

LMS started out providing Phyto-Utilization™ systems dedicated solely to the solid waste industry.  As we grew, we were able to branch out and are now able to serve more industries and clients.  Combining our expertise in natural systems with decades of experience designing and coordinating remediation projects, we created our non-landfill environmental services division doing business as Clear Creek Environmental Solutions.

Options for on-site treatment of landfill leachate are often viewed as needing to be expensive and complicated liquid management systems in order to achieve discharge requirements.  LMS specializes in finding a better way through innovative and cost-effective solutions. 

Seep breakouts and slope instability can become a headache for any landfill or dump facility.  An effective method for preventing and repairing these problems is using plants and trees to secure the soil layer in place and soak up any extra runoff or potential seep.  Two powerful solutions include the use of hybrid poplar trees and vetiver grass.
