The Multi-Return Altimeter 11001 from Marine Electronics is engineered to meet the demanding sonar data acquisition needs of oceanographic and scientific research. Unlike conventional 'first-return' altimeters, this model digitizes receiver output at high speed into a FIFO memory. This digital processing is facilitated by an onboard RISC microcontroller, allowing precise range calculations to the seabed. The device is set up via an RS232 connection to a PC, with parameters stored in FLASH memory, ensuring no power is needed post-configuration. Outputs include both analog and digital, with the analog output managed by a 12-bit converter adjustable for 5v or 10v full-scale. The device also supports high-resolution digital data output through RS232 and RS485.
