Maryland Environmental Service services
Water/Wastewater Maintenance and Operations Services
Our team of licensed and certified personnel operates hundreds of private, municipal, and county water and wastewater plants, plus State-owned plants at correctional facilities, health facilities, rest areas, and State parks. Our employees know the requirements necessary to guarantee a safe water supply and keep wastewater discharges in compliance with federal and state regulations. Support services are also available to care for your water and wastewater systems from top to bottom. Our partners also benefit from access to resources and personnel that support a project from day one. Our mechanical and electrical maintenance staff is on call to respond to emergencies or manage contractors as needed to complete repairs or rehabilitation of equipment.
Biosolids Management Services
Biosolids benefit agriculture, the economy, and our environment. MES facilities beneficially reused approximately 60% of our biosolids, or 24,000 tons of material, in 2016. After meeting the appropriate U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Maryland State standards, biosolids can be recycled and used as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Biosolids are rich in nitrogen and phosphorus and contain other micronutrients for plant growth.
Water/Wastewater Engineering Services
Maryland Environmental Service employs a robust staff of engineers to provide expert project management and related engineering services. Our engineers can determine your water and wastewater needs, assist you in selecting the right size facility and the right technology and equipment, prepare specifications, and oversee the construction of your new plant.
Solid Waste Operations Services
Throughout Maryland, Maryland Environmental Service operators, engineers, and project managers are available to meet the solid waste needs of Maryland communities. We design, build, and operate landfills, transfer stations, and homeowner drop-off locations. Our mobile grinder is available for general brush and yard waste. We remove tires from old dump sites, cleaning and restoring the landscape. We provide environmental monitoring for landfill gas and groundwater. We offer municipal waste collection for county bus stops. MES serves counties, large municipalities, small towns, and rural communities that need creative solutions for solid waste challenges.
Recycling Services
Maryland Environmental Service is committed to completing the circle of recycling and helping our partners find cost-effective ways to meet their environmental missions. MES can design, purchase, construct, and operate both dual and single stream recycling systems, and market the output. For agencies and organizations seeking to improve recycling rates, MES provides program evaluation and training. Our award-winning operations handle paper, plastic, glass, and metal. Our professional team provides presentations, tours, and educational outreach.
Engineering Services
MES GeoSpatial Engineers provide oversight as Third-Party Inspectors of Record (TPIR). MES inspection, payment, and completion certifiers oversee work during construction, construction invoices, and impervious areas treated and report to the Maryland Department of the Environment.
Environmental Monitoring Services
Expert Environmental Monitoring protects our air, land, and water. It also ensures our partners comply with complicated regulations and avoid costly violations. MES monitoring team members conduct comprehensive program management of environmental sampling, system operations, strategic planning, and remediation.
Planning and Permitting Services
Due to mostly natural processes, many waterways experience sediment buildup. Dredging keeps shipping channels and lakes open for their intended purposes. MES has over 30 years of experience in engineering, construction, environmental management, and facility operations and maintenance related to dredging and dredged material containment facilities. These facilities become more than an environmentally safe location for dredged material; MES, on behalf of our clients, transforms these sites into wildlife habitats, natural recreation areas, and environmental education centers for Maryland citizens.
Engineering and Survey Services
MES has licensed engineers and surveyors who are capable of providing coordination and management of complex projects. From the planning, feasibility, and permitting phase through engineering consultant design and development of procurement documents to procurement of construction services, and construction contract management, oversight, and inspection, MES can customize our services to fit the needs of our partners. MES also has project managers, equipment operators and labor staff to self-perform construction projects.
