Sidestream Venturi Injection—Basin Nozzle Manifold Contacting System. Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The Problem: In 2001, a water quality audit revealed that two of the largest drinking water plants in the City of Montreal were out of compliance with Quebec’s latest water quality rules. In response to the audit, the city upgraded the 1,400 MLD Atwater and the 1,280 MLD Charles J. Des Baillets (Des Baillets ) Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) to

Activated Sludge Treatment in a Municipal Sewage Treatment Plant. Huntsville, AL

The Problem: A design/build contractor needed a quiet, efficient aeration system for a 250,000 GPD field erected WWTP. This plant was to be located adjacent to a school. A restriction on ambient noise at the location of the proposed WWTP required a quiet aeration process.

The Solution: The project engineer selected a Mazzei AirJection aerati

The Problem: The treated effluent from all wastewater treatment plants across the country must meet local dissolved oxygen (DO) limits before discharging into receiving waters. A new municipal WWTP in southern Mississippi, designed by Carollo Engineers, has a pressurized effluent line to discharge into a local river. Since the line is pressurized, the standard method for increasing DO, a cascade (aka waterfall), was not a valid option.

The Solution:

Large Lagoon Odor Control & Stabilization for Land Application at Grimmway Farms Carrot Packing Plant. Kern County, CA

The Problem: A carrot packing plant was having severe odor problems due to septic conditions in their truck washout water holding lagoon. In addition, nutrient and nitrogen levels were becoming an issue for land application of the wastewater for crop production.

The Solution: The plant manager select

GDT Degas Separator Selected As Best Method For Entrained Gas Bubbles Removal Wichita, KS

The Problem: In the 1990s, the City of Wichita, Kansas developed a water supply plan that included creating a sustainable water supply through the year 2050. The key component of the plan is recharging the large aquifer that lies under the region with 100 MGD of water from the Little Arkansas River. This undertaking is known as the Aquifer Storage and Recovery

The Problem: A large vegetable processing facility was experiencing problems with its lagoon surface aerators. The company’s treatment process includes a collection and screening assembly, two anaerobic stabilization ponds and a 40 million gallon aerated lagoon. The aeration lagoon is used for BOD reduction and polishing before the water is discharged to a near-by creek. Several surface aerators had been used to provide the oxygen in the aeration lagoon. However, the su

Mazzei Injector Company, LLC is a recognized industry leader in gas to liquid mass transfer primarily from its proven 25 year experience with ozone applications. In addition, Mazzei has installed the same patented Venturi injector and mixing nozzle technology in many municipal and industrial wastewater systems in applications at lift stations, equalization tanks, aeration basins, activated sludge digesters and in-pipeline post-aeration discharge.

The Problem: In 2010, the Hagerstown Wastewater Treatment Plant in Maryland incorporated several plant modifications, one of which was the conversion of their disinfection process from the use of ozone to that of ultraviolet (UV). In their previous system, due to the ozone being produced by an oxygen-fed ozone generator, the dissolved oxygen (DO) levels of the effluent being discharged into a local creek met regulatory standards. With the change in the disinfection process, t

Introduction:

The Moccasin Bend WWTP uses pure oxygen produced by a cryogenic oxygen plant for activated sludge treatment of the influent waste stream, which consists of municipal and industrial wastes. The waste stream contains a high proportion of high strength industrial waste, which results in a typical COD loading of about 2000 mg/L, which is approximately four times the strength of normal municipal waste. For oxygen transfer the plant employs conventional sur

US Environment Protection Agency (USEPA) regulations require mining operations to remediate their waste streams prior to environmental discharge. Wastewater streams from gold mine operations can be particularly toxic due to the potential for cyanide contamination and the concentration of metals contained in the wastewater effluent.

This paper reviews the challenges and success of installing and operating an ozone oxidation system for wastewater remediation at a gold mine located
