Ream HMI for Coiled Tubing
The REAM HMI is a user-friendly data acquisition system that reads data from electronic sensors and displays the data on a TFT touch screen, which acts as both an input and an output device. The system records the data on solid state Compact Flash memory and allows remote monitoring of the data. Two screen size options are available, 7” and 9”. The system is made of two main parts, REAM is a microprocessor based data acquisition board, which collects data from electronic sensors, digitise the readings, and supply the appropriate excitation voltage to the sensors. The HMI communicates with the REAM board to retrieve, display, and store the data. REAM has analogue, counters (frequency), and quadrature channels. The analogue channels accept signals from sensors with 0-5 vdc, 0-10 vdc, or 4-20 mA output. The counters accept pulse signals produced by proximity switches or magnetic pickups. The quadrature channel accepts up/down counter, such as a depth encoder.

As an option, all supplied sensors can be intrinsically safe, suitable for use in hazardous areas.

Emergency Warning & Stop Module EWSM
EWSM is a combined alarm and control system used to alert coiled tubing operators and to control the injector in case of an imminent danger, thus preventing accidents. The module is built in the MEDCO Real-time Electronic Acquisition & Monitoring (REAM). With one alarm output a solenoid valve is activated diverting fluids to a dump tank, this action will automatically stop the injector motors and apply the brakes. While the second alarm output will trigger an audible buzzer and a visual beacon to alert the operator. The second alarm output (buzzer and beacon) will also be active while the first alarm output is active. The REAM HMI allows the user to enter operational limits for any of the measured parameters such as Weight, Rate of Change of Weight, Depth, Speed, etc. The user is also able to choose which alarm will be activated when an operational limit is reached.
Emergency Pump Stop System EPSS
EPSS is a combined alarm and control system used to alert pump operators and to control the pump in case of an imminent danger, thus preventing accidents. The system consists of a control module with two alarm outputs. Each alarm output connects to a solenoid valve, which closes the air flow to the pump throttle. Additionally, the output will trigger an audible buzzer and a visual beacon to alert the operator. For electrically operated pump throttle, the alarms will cut-off the electrical current to the throttle, no solenoids required. The EPSS can be used on dual-pump units and is compatible with MEDCO’s REAM HMI data acquisition system. The REAM HMI allows the user to enter operational limits on pump pressure. The user is also able to choose which alarm will be activated when an operational limit is reached.
