Our Blade Cutterhead features carbide-tipped Blade Cutters, most effective in soft to medium/soft formations such as dirt, clay, mild sandstone, and light shale.

Our Blade/Bullet Cutterhead features both our Blade Cutters and our Bullet Cutters. It is most effective in soft to medium formations such as clay, hard sandstone, and hard shale.

Solid augers have a hex shank (pin) up and a hex socket (box) down. The standard length is 5′ with other length sections available. All Mills Machine built solid augers have hard surface coating on the outer flighting edge. *Solid Auger diameters are designated by the hole diameter cut by the solid auger cutter head. The actual diameter of the auger is smaller so the auger flighting conveys the cuttings and the cutter head does the work. See “Auger Diameter” column above for actual diameter of the auger.

Our Bullet Cutterhead features carbide-tipped Bullet Cutters. Rated to cut up to 10,000 p.s.i. rock, these cutters create a ripping, gouging effect, best suited for medium soft to hard formations such as hard clay, sandstone, shale, and limestone.

Our Spade/Bullet Cutterhead features both our Spade Cutters and our Bullet Cutters. It is most effective in soft to medium hard formations such as clay, sandstone, hard shale, and soft limestone.

Our 5-T Cutterhead features carbide-tipped 5-T (square finger) cutters, most effective in hard compacted clay formations.

Mills Machine Company’s flightless cutter heads were created primarily for environmental drillers on the West Coast and are rapidly becoming popular in other parts of the country. These bits feature a stronger body design and feature longer cutter block life. The flightless design efficiently removes cuttings resulting in better penetration and durability. These bits are available with 2 or 3 key design and in any size, style or number of cutters.

The finger bit cuts a 1/2″ larger diameter hole, on the 5″ O.D. and larger sizes, than the corresponding solid auger bullet bit or fish tail bit.
