ECA block is a highly porous substance and has a density range of 650 to 950 kg/m3, which reduces its deadweight. This makes it easier to transport and faster to carry around, which reduces the structural and labour cost of the building.

Most economical when the dead weight is large compared with the total load or when a low density is required. The load bearing capacity of ECA Concrete will be equivalent to or even higher than normal weight concrete, as a proportion of the total loading.

ECA used in flooring can help in reducing weight up to 50-60%. Because of the low specific weight of ECA it can be laid to considerable thicknesses, and can incorporate services (electrical, water) which keeping the structural loading low. The porous nature of the expanded clay granules gives excellent thermal installation and improves acoustic insulation. For the floor finish, top screed is required, either using one of the mixes in the ECA-Mortar range (0-3mm) or a traditional sand / Lime / cement mix.
