Nitration

Noram - Mononitrobenzene (MNB)

MNB is a feedstock that, via intermediates aniline and MDI, ultimately becomes polyurethane. NORAM’s adiabatic aromatic nitration technology has been implemented for customers all over the world including the world’s largest MNB plant.  NORAM has a broad range of experience in meeting our clients’ local requirements. We continue to innovate and provide solutions for new challenges, which has resulted in a comprehensive suite of patents.

Noram - Nitric Acid Concentration (NAC)

Our proprietary Nitric Acid Concentration process is characterized by its energy economy, minimal losses of nitric acid and sulfuric acid, and with the integration of our NOx Recovery technology, almost 100% yield of nitric acid. Pre-heating of weak nitric acid feed reduces the consumption of medium to high pressure steam, and shifts heat exchanger surface area from tantalum to less expensive materials like zirconium and various stainless steel alloys specifically developed for nitric acid service. NORAM’s extensive knowledge of glass-lined piping systems ensures a safe and robust piping design with minimal maintenance costs. For specialized applications where organics-laden nitric acid streams are recycled to the NAC, NORAM draws on its extensive nitration experience to ensure safe designs in which organic compounds are unable to accumulate and form unstable mixtures.

Sulfuric Acid

Noram - Catalytic Converters

Constructed from all-welded stainless steel (Typically SS-304H), which largely eliminates corrosion, while reducing maintenance requirements and extending service life. Robust mechanical designs eliminate thermal expansion and reliability issues, provide excellent gas distribution, and maximise SO2 conversion. Typical converter options include:

Noram - Acid Towers

Acid tower designs are available for Drying, Interpass Absorption, Final Absorption, Oleum, Quench, Stripping and Scrubbing.

Noram - Acid Pump Tanks

Vertical-type and bullet-type configurations are offered for service in strong acid circuits. Brick-lined or NORAM SX™ materials of construction are available. Tanks can be operated with or without internal dilution.

Noram - Model HP - Saddle Ceramic Packing

Our proprietary HP packing is made through a slip-casting process which produces saddles of uniform shape within a narrow range of size tolerances. The high-performance design achieves high absorption capacity and low pressure drop. Breakage during shipping and installation has typically been less than 0.1 percent. NORAM HP™ packing is often used to debottleneck acid towers and achieve higher plant capacities due to pressure drop savings.

Smart - Acid Distributors

SMART  acid distributors: Allows for easy installation, and cleaning from external ports without entering the tower. Uniform acid distribution throughout tower cross section area, low spray generation rate is also achieved. Trough acid distributors: A robust design with all-metal construction.

Noram - Acid Coolers

Anodically protected acid coolers: Use large diameter cathodes, which minimize the voltage drop along the cathode and give more uniform passivation.

Electrochemical

Noram - Electrochemical Cells

NORAM’s proprietary family of electrochemical cells provides a platform for the scale-up and commercialization of novel electrochemical processes. A range of proprietary cell architectures allow scale-up of industrial processes in the minerals processing, organic synthesis and wastewater treatment arenas. The NORSCAND® electrochemical platform can be configured as a multi-compartment bipolar cell assembly with a high degree of design flexibility (adaptability), and finds application across a process spectrum, from salt-splitting to wastewater treatment operations.

Noram - Chlor-Alkali and Hypochlorite plants

We have an extensive history in the engineering of chlor-alkali plants incorporating mercury, diaphragm, and membrane cell designs, and canassemble a project team widely experienced in membrane chlor-alkali technology. Recent innovations in our technology line-up include a chlorine distillation tower to remove CO2.
