Obermeyer spillway gates have replaced many deteriorated mechanical gates such as radial gates, bottom hinged hydraulically operated flap gates, and slide gates. The width, height and profile may be customized to precisely fit almost any existing gate or stop-log bay. For example, in the above image of an Obermeyer gate system being used to replace obsolete hydraulic flap gates, the gate on the right (facing upstream) is already in operation. The middle gate is being assembled. The foundation on the left is being prepared for gate installation.

Obermeyer Spillway Gates are ideal for low head navigation impoundments. Under high flow conditions, with water levels that allow barge traffic, the lack of intermediate piers enhances the safety of barge traffic going over the gates. The Obermeyer Spillway Gates can be proportionally controlled to maintain a constant upstream channel depth. Because all the gates act in unison the spillage flows are evenly distributed downstream, resulting in less channel scouring and optimum, uniform velocity navigation conditions. The Obermeyer service crane permits maintenance of individual air bladders and gates under a wide range of water elevations and flow conditions. The Obermeyer Spillway Gates may also be configured to control lock chambers.

Aesthetically pleasing impoundments created with Obermeyer Spillway Gates in otherwise fluctuating stream channels create a stable aquatic habitat and provide recreational opportunities for fishing, boating swimming, skating. Precise and reliable water level control allows the water surface to be maintained at an accessible and aesthetically pleasing elevation that may be coordinated with landscaping, while allowing occasional flood flows to safely pass.
