Atmospheric Turbulence and Crosswinds

OSI - Long-Baseline Optical Anemometer/Turbulence Sensors

The Long-baseline Optical Anemometer (LOA) measures path averaged crosswind and turbulence over distances of 100 meters to over 10 km. Based on optical scintillation technology, its optics `see` the always present temperature and density variation in small parcels of air as they move through the  infrared beam. OSI`s patented LOA sensors are based on advanced technology tested and approved by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Environmental Technology Laboratories (ETL) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Automated Weather Stations

OSI - Automated Weather Observing Stations

The OSI AWOS AV system is a fully automated aviation weather observing and reporting system designed to support airborne and ground users. This FAA-certified AWOS is equipped with dual-pressure sensors and visibility sensors for determining official altimeter settings, visibility, and reporting via FCC-licensed UHF data radio, Internet, land line or cell phones.

OSI - Portable Hazardous Meteorological Stations

The HazMET100 Portable AWS is an advanced, Portable Automated Weather Station built around the 2100-138 Multi-parameter Meteorological Sensor. The low power requirements of the HazMET100 AWS make it well suited for portable battery and solar powered applications. The system has been designed from  the ground up for fast setup anywhere.

OSI - Modular Automated Weather Observation Systems

OSi`s AWS-432 MAWOS is an advanced / best-value Modular Automated Weather Observing System built around the OWI-432 present weather/visibility sensor. The AWS-432 MAWOS is designed for aviation applications and continuous weather reporting. The system is flexible, robust, easily installed, and extremely reliable. OSI has fielded weather sensors in every environment on the globe.

OSI - Small Weather Stations

Long a world leader in optical meteorological sensors OSI now provides automated weather stations (AWS) built around the OWI-431 DSP WIVIS and OWI-651 Low Power WIVIS.  Select the OWI-431 based system for permanent AC powered stations.  Select the OWI-651 for battery powered or solar applications.  In either case, you get an advanced Weather Identifier and Visibility Sensor (WIVIS) with other sensors of your choice.  These optional sensors include wind, temperature/humidity, road surface conditions, barometric pressure, and other.

Emissions Flow Monitoring

OSI - Optical Flow Sensor

The OFS-2000 has a range of 0-40m/sec and is the only flow sensor that gives a true non-contracting cross-stack flow measurement of the process. OSi`s patented Optical Flow Sensor (OFS) makes drift-free measurements across the entire stack, duct or pipe diameter and calculates an accurate average  flow reading. It is the only flow sensor that gives a true non-contacting cross-stack flow measurement of the process. The OFS uses our EPA Method 14 approved optical scintillation technology. The optical scintillation technique relies on advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) electronics to "see" and measure the movement of turbulence found in a gaseous flow stream to provide highly accurate, path-averaged air velocity measurements. The accuracy of the OFS has been proven both in NIST`s wind tunnel and in numerous real-world installations.

OSI - Optical Flow Sensors for Wet Scrubbers, Bag Houses, and High Opacity

The OFS-2000W model is equipped with Automatic Gain Control (AGC) to compensate for variations in opacity caused by particulate matter or moisture carried in the flow. OSi`s patented Optical Flow Sensor (OFS) makes drift-free measurements across the entire stack, duct or pipe diameter and calculates a true average flow reading. The OFS 2000-W model is equipped with Automatic Gain Control (AGC) to compensate for variations in opacity caused by particulate matter or moisture carried in the stack flow. The accuracy of the OFS has been proven both in the NIST wind tunnel, and time after time in real-world applications.

OSI - Optical Flow Sensor (OFS) for Flares

The OFS-2000F was designed specifically for Flares stack sand reports flow velocities from 0.03 - 170 m/sec with a ± 2% accuracy. OSI - Optical Particulate Mass Flow Sensor

The OFS-2000P Particulate and Flow sensors report Air Flow and a general Particulate loading and percent opacity in virtually any operating condition. OSI - Long-Baseline Optical Anemometer/Turbulence Sensors for Aluminum Smelters

LOA-105 Optical Anemometer for Aluminum Plants is specially designed for superior performance in tough pot room environments. The sensor uses proven optical technology to measure the airflow velocity through the roof vents. The eye-safe LED transmitter and twin photodiode receiver are placed at either end of the pot room and simply need to "look" through the HF flow to measure the airflow. Its maximum path length of 3 km allows the LOA to handle the biggest of pot room`s easily. The instrument is ready with features such as HF resistant windows and air knives to keep the windows clear. LOA has automatic gain control and continuous self-checking.
