Portable Tritium Monitor

Overhoff - Model 200SB and 200SB HTO - Portable Tritium Survey Monitor

The Model 200SB is a low-cost, lightweight, portable tritium in air monitor.  A rapid warmup, high-volume rotary vane pump, and fast electronics combine to give this tritium monitor a very quick overall response time of just 5 seconds or less.  The Model 200SB uses two coaxial 200cc ionization chambers, one for measurement and one for gamma compensation.  The 200SB is our economy model, with medium sensitivity, a wide range, and very fast response.  Particularly useful as an emergency tritium monitor due to compact size and rapid warmup and response.

Overhoff - Model SP1400DD - Ultra Sensitive Portable Tritium Monitors

The Model SP1400DD is Overhoff’s most sensitive portable tritium in air monitor, utilizing dual 1,400cc ionization chambers, one for measurement and one for compensation for the best sensitivity available in a portable tritium monitor.  The chambers were selected to be of a manageable size and weight to carry while achieving maximum performance.  A shoulder strap frees both hands for directing the sniffer hose when the instrument is used for leak detection or other purposes, and a front-panel cover that attaches with two draw latches serves to stow the carrying strap, sniffer hose, and spare dust filters to make it convenient for carrying the instrument to location.  A heavy-duty internal pump provides up to 4 volume changes per minute to ensure a fast overall response and has been rated for 2,000 hours MTBF.  The sensitivity of the SP1400DD exceeds that of most “fixed” monitors, and can therefore be used as a semi-permanent area monitor.

Passive Samplers

Overhoff - Model TASC-HTO-HT - Tritium Air Sampler

The Model TASC-HTO-HT is a high-quality and reliable passive tritium in air sampler.  Airborne tritium in the sample stream is continuously collected in vials filled with a liquid collection medium (water or glyocol).  The amount trapped increases linearly with elapsed time.  At regular intervals, the sampling is stopped, the contents removed and assayed using liquid scintillation counting to determine the amount of radioactivity collected.  Knowing the collection flow rate and the results of the scintillation assay, the average sample activity can be calculated for the period of time over which the sample was collected.   Passive samplers, although they do not provide real-time data, provide a low-cost and highly effective method of measuring extremely low levels for ensuring compliance with local regulations.

Stationary Tritium in Air Monitors - Ultra-Sensitive Gas Proportional

Overhoff - Model 593 - Ultra-Sensitive Gas Proportional Monitor

The Model 593 is the most sensitive tritium in air monitor that we offer and is designed for accurately measuring ultra-low levels of airborne tritium through use of a balanced pair of proportional counter detectors.  The Model 593 is sensitive to only tritium, a Nafion dryer (selectively permeable membrane) is used to isolate tritium oxide before measurement; all other sample constituents, including pollutants, radioisotopes (i.e., noble gases), aerosols, and particulates are removed and eliminated prior to measurement.  For measuring total tritium (HT + HTO), a catalytic oxidizer can be included to convert elemental tritium to tritium oxide.  The 593 features a large, color touch-screen LCD display and is housed inside an industrial IP-54, NEMA-13 rated cabinet with a polycarbonate window door and key locking latch on door.

Tritium Surface Contamination Monitors

Overhoff - Model FF-27 - Open Window Gas Proportional Monitor

The Model FF-27 is an open-window gas proportional monitor for measuring tritium (and C-14) surface contamination on flat surfaces.  The FF-27 utilizes a large, rectangular windowless probe with 100cm2 sensitive area (6cm x 21.6cm) to quickly scan large areas, using poly tape to provide repeatable spacing from the surface as well smooth, scratch-free movement.  The poly tape is easily cleaned, but may also be replaced if contaminated.

Tritium in Water Monitors

Overhoff - Model 1925-PR - Tritium Heavy Water Leak Detector

The Model 1925-PR is an automated, real-time low-level tritium in water monitor that utilizes a novel electrolysis method to separate the hydrogen (tritium) from oxygen and measure it using an ultra-sensitive gas proportional detector.  The main advantage of the 1925-PR is that it does not require liquid scintillation counting cocktail nor does it produce hazardous mixed waste that must be carefully stored, transported, and disposed of.
