The “MAGNUS” Universal Test Frame is constructed of a twinned steel channel frame fastened with high tensile fixings. This creates an overall structure size of 4.61m long, 2.53m high and 1.20m wide and an internal working space of 4.0m long x 1.6m high.

A double acting hydraulic ram is mounted on a travelling carriage.  The wheels of the carriage roll on the bottom flanges of the horizontal upper cross member of the HPM1 “MAGNUS” Universal Test Frame and clamping screws and hand wheels are provided to lock the carriage where required.  This enables the loading span to be varied accordingly.

The HME10 Universal mechanisms kit combines a wide variety of simple mechanism experiments into one single kit. 

The Vortex Tube is an interesting device in which a compressed gas (usually air) is divided into two streams at a lower pressure. One of these streams is about 50K colder, and the other is about 50K hotter than the compressed gas supplied. It is an unusual method for producing cooling air.

The HB100 Hydraulics Bench is the main source of water supply/flow for all the additional modules within the HB series from P.A.Hilton Ltd.

The HB100A Free and Forced Vortices unit enables students to easily investigate the concept of vortices. The apparatus allows a clear 360° view of the experiment, along with no visual refractory interference thanks to its single skin clear plastic tank. A pure forced vortex is produced by spinning the tank via an internal motor controlled by a “smart” front mounted speed controller which responds to accidental interference of the spinning tank to ensure student safety. Interchangeable free vortex orifices allow investigation of different sized free vortices. Measurement of the different profiles is achieved with a digital sliding horizontal scale and a precision engraved needle point rod allowing an infinite degree of measurement points to be achieved. The apparatus operates from the atop the HB100 Hydraulics bench base unit.

A complete, upgradeable, instrumented air conditioning laboratory unit mounted on a steel frame and castor wheels. Upgrades may be added at any stage in the unit’s long life to spread the investment costs.
