A low-cost current following drifter designed to track currents at 1 meter beneath the surface. The Microstar was specifically designed to meet the unique challenges of coastal environments as a shallow water small scale current measuring platform.

The low-cost sacrificial CARTHE drifter tracks currents centered 40 cm below the surface and is designed to enable large-scale deployments. The patented design was developed by a team of physical oceanographers and engineers at the University of Miami.

The Self-Locating Datum Marker Buoy (SLDMB) can easily be deployed by hand from ships, oil rigs and aircraft. An optional auto-detaching parachute allows deployment from aircraft or other high elevations.
