A technology that allows the connection of different underground levels with precision, ease in removing debris and with much less impact compared to the conventional use of explosives. This method of mechanized excavation has developed since the 60s in the mining sector for the construction of ventilation shafts and is currently used also in civil construction. Once a pilot hole has been made, a milling head placed at the deepest level is rotated and pulled by a special machine (Raise Boring Machine/RBM) positioned at the upper level, reaming the pilot hole to the final, desired diameter. The Palmieri Group supplies both the specific parts (cutters, head, rods and stabilizers) and the complete machines.

A horizontal and vertical drilling technique for diameters ranging from 70 mm to 7.5 m, commonly adopted in projects that mainly concern excavations, water wel Is, piling and foundations. After twenty years of presence in the Recycling business, with PASS~fv,,the Palmieri Group launches a new challenge and enters into the world of renewable energy, a booming sector, thanks to the global need to recycle and transform waste into energy and in new raw material, in order to preserve and improve the environment. PASS"V pre-shreds, removes iron and separates the solid parts from the FORSU producing a mashed bio-waste which, fed into bio-digesters will be used for the production of bio-gas. Thanks to constant research and commitment, the Palmieri Group has designed and built, entirely in house, a state-of-the-art system, which delivers plant managers with greater productivity and versatility during the waste pre-treatment process.

Since the 1990s, when Palmieri S.p.A. designed and supplied its first TBM cutter head, the Palmieri Group has manufactured and refurbished over 80 TBM cutter heads, with diameters reaching up to 15 meters.

The backup system is a crucial component of tunneling equipment; its proper design and engineering are essential to ensuring the optimal performance of the entire tunneling system. The Group can conceptualize and design a diverse range of TBM backup systems, available in various configurations, and produce sliding backups and other types, all specifically tailored to the project requirements and the equipment that will be used.

Tailoring the product to the specific application is a fundamental priority for the Palmieri, which is why it offers the widest range of cutters, from 6″ to 20″ (150 to 500 mm), essential for meeting the needs of both the smallest and largest TBMs. This commitment affords Palmieri’s clients access to an extensive range of rock cutting tools, engineered to be compatible with all brands of tunnel machines, suitable for use in a variety of ground conditions.

Machines designed for small-diameter tunnel excavation for pipelines with a circular cross-section, available in sizes ranging from 800 to 3500 mm, and suitable for all types of ground conditions, including the presence of water. The equipment is available with two different material extraction systems for the waste generated during the drilling process, which are pre-selected to suit the specific geological conditions of the terrain: slurry tube extraction or auger extraction.

The entire system is guided and controlled by a guidance system or guide container placed outside the tunnel. The precision of the excavation is monitored by a guidance system (the laser guidance and laser targeting).

One of the key advantages of microtunneling is the ability to easily increase the drilling diameter of the machine within a specified range, by installing a removable extension kit that can be seamlessly integrated into the machine. Furthermore, the extension kit can be designed in a “modular” configuration, as can the cutting head. This provides an ideal solution, particularly for blind tunneling applications.

During the advancement, the pipes are installed from the outside and transfer the thrust generated by the main jacking station to the machine. When the drilling distance exceeds 100-150 meters, the main jacking station may no longer provide sufficient thrust for the machine’s progress. In such cases, intermediate jacking stations are installed to supply the additional thrust necessary for continued advancement.
