Environmental Chemistry
Industrial Wastewater Monitoring Services
Although federal regulation of water pollution dates back to 1948, effective management was not achieved until passage of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972. This established the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program, which regulates discharges to waters of the United States. This program encompasses direct dischargers, those that discharge indirectly through municipal collection systems, and stormwater runoff.
Petroleum Hydrocarbon Analysis Services
Petroleum and related products have been refined, stored, and shipped in huge quantities for over one hundred years. For much of that time regulations were either lax or non-existent, and spills and leaks were common. It is only during the last 20 years that we have begun to address the large backlog of petroleum contaminated sites. In New York State we have a well-developed Spill Response Program maintained by the NYSDEC. The DEC also provides technical guidance concerning remediation of petroleum spill sites, including excavation of contaminated soils.
Lead Based Material
Abatement Wipe Sampling & Analysis Services
At Paradigm we offer laboratory analysis of paint chips, dust wipes, soils, and drinking waters. This testing is often used to supplement the information gathered during an XRF survey. Paint chips can be used as an alternative to XRF, and are often used to verify XRF readings. Wipe samples are used to assess lead-contaminated dust prior to and following renovation activities. Analysis of soils and water supply provide information on additional sources of lead exposure. In each case samples are carefully analyzed using state-of-the-art ICP technology and EPA specified methods, yielding data of the highest quality. As with all of our analytical services, results can be obtained in as little as 24 hours.
