Environmental Restoration

Portage has managed numerous large-scale, multimillion-dollar environmental-restoration projects at numerous sites across the U.S., involving characterization, remediation, waste containerization, transportation, and safe disposition of thousands of cubic yards of radiologically and chemically contaminated soil and debris. Portage provides both technical and field support for environmental-restoration projects. We perform remedial investigation and feasibility studies, engineering evaluations and cost analyses, and design of remedial alternatives, as well as sampling, data collection, and data analysis to support site characterization. We provide soil and groundwater remediation and watershed/stream restoration. In 2009 Engineering News Record ranked us Number 20 in All-Environmental Firms, and Number 66 in overall listing of Top 200 Environmental Firms.

Environmental Compliance

Portage provides compliance expertise for a full spectrum of environmental regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (analysis and process administration); Clean Water Act; Clean Air Act; Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (evaluations, treatment design, removal, and disposal); and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (permitting, assessments, and closures). In addition, we provide consultation on U.S. Department of Energy Order 435.1 compliance. We assist in the development and management of hazardous chemical inventories. Among our other areas of expertise are threatened and endangered species evaluations, human health and ecological risk assessments, cultural resource protection, pollution prevention, environmental monitoring, conservation planning, and public involvement.
