Poseidon Aquatic Resource Management Ltd services
Coastal Management and Environmental Assessment
The management of our coastal environment is a highly dynamic and challenging area of work. Poseidon has been involved in a number of coastal management initiatives that ensure that fisheries and marine aquaculture developments operate in harmony with other coastal users. Much of the Company’s work has been at a strategic level for nations or regions, integrating fisheries management plans with wider coastal practices. Recently we have reviewed industry and government actions to identify areas of improvement towards sustainable consumption and production of seafood, as well as successfully delivering pilot schemes to test the practical implementation of Marine Spatial Planning.
Fisheries Research and Ecosystem-based Science
The role of the ecosystem in fisheries management has become ever more prominent since the Reykjavik Declaration on Responsible Fisheries in Marine Ecosystems, 2001 which pioneered the ‘ecosystem-based fisheries management approach’. The Company’s biologists have made significant contributions to the European and global thinking on this important issue, with a particular emphasis on establishing criteria for responsible fisheries management and the development of ecosystem-based monitoring approaches.Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) Services
Poseidon has a huge amount of expertise in the field of Monitoring, Control and Surveillance. Work has included projects in the UK and EU countries, and around the world. We have developed numerous NPOAs on IUU fisheries and assisted countries in complying with the EU IUU regulation, have reviewed and advised on national MCS strategies and practices, and have evaluated projects and programmes financing MCS improvements.
