Duraband® NC from Hardbanding Solutions is a 100% crack-free hardband that provides maximum protection of the tool joint and casing as well as workstring completion tubing (also referred to as hardbanding completion tubing or tubebanding). Its microstructure consists of a hard, but tough tool steel matrix with a high volume of tightly packed micro-constituents. This chemistry ensures a non-cracking hard band with excellent wear resistance in open hole drilling as well as being casing friendly.

The rebuilding of tong spaces on a tool joint box or pin is quite similar to traditional hardbanding applications. Careful attention to preheating procedures and temperatures as well as slow cooling during postwelding procedures is critical. Particular attention should be given to inspection of services for cracks using MPI methods.The procedure below outlines the basic requirements to successfully rebuild tong spaces with Postalloy® Tool Joint BU-MCG. Some adjustments will be required to accommodate various diameters of tool joints.

Postalloy Tuffband NC is a high hardness hardband that may be used by itself for casing friendly hardband applications or used as a weld matrix with Tungsten Carbide (WC) when casing protection is not a factor.

Postalloy Tool Joint BU-SA is a premium chrome-moly, medium manganese, carbon steel metal cored wire for submerged arc welding with a very smooth arc transfer. This wire is intended for multi-layer build-up of oil drilling tool joints where compatibility with higher carbon steel chemistries is critical.

Postalloy Ultraband NM (Patent Pending) is a hard, 100% crack free Hardband designed for non-mag drill collars and related components.

POSTALLOY® PS-11W with Reactive Core Technology™ (RCT) is a nickel base hardfacing cored wire containing a special blend of tungsten carbides for extreme abrasion as well as corrosion. The matrix is resistant to acids, bases, lye and other corrosive media. This alloy can be applied crack-free with the proper welding procedures. The alloying elements in the wire produce a higher hardness weld deposit that encapsulates and protects the carbide particles, reducing the premature wear caused by erosion to the carbide particles. As a result it achieves a considerable service life improvement in extreme applications compared to PS-10.

POSTALLOY CP63070-M ® is a nickel base self-fluxing alloy combined with a high percentage of tungsten carbide powder. The low fusing temperature of this alloy combined with the proper distribution of carbides helps to reduce the melting of the carbides into the matrix. This produces the highest amount of abrasion resistance possible. A tightly controlled mesh range also helps to reduce unwanted overspray and gives the operator more control of the puddle.

Controlled cooling is critical for a consistently high quality hardband application. HB Insulators help increase quality and decrease rejections to keep costs low

The insulator wrap is the same as the insulator bag except that is open at both ends to wrap center pads of drill pipe.
