Bentonite is Hydrated Aluminium Silicate having typical physical properties like Swelling, Plasticity & Water Absorption. Mineralogical name of Bentonite is “Montmorillonite”, designated by the chemical formula (Al,Fe1.67Mg.33)Si10(OH)2Na(+)Ca(++)/2.33. Montmorrilonite composition consists of two basic building blocks of alumina octahedral sheet and one silica tetrahedral sheet.

Kaolin or China clay, is nearly white in color.  It is distinguished from other industrial clays based on its fine grained plate like particle size, plasticity and pure coloring.  Its ability to disperse in water make it an ideal pigment. The primary constituent in kaolin is the mineral kaolinite, a hydrous aluminum silicate formed by the decomposition of minerals such as feldspar. Chemical formula of kaolin is H2Al2Si2OK8-H2O.

Attapulgite is sometimes referred to as salt gel and/or fullers earth. Attapulgite is a hydrous magnesium aluminosilicate with formula (Mg,Al)2Si4O10(OH)4(H2O) that occurs in a type of clay soil produced in fine powder as gel and absorbent grades. It is needle like structure. Processing of the clays consist of drying and grinding the crude clay to specific particle size distributions with specific ranges of gel viscosity measured by a variety of means depending on the end use.
