The HSE L8 Approved Code of Practice States that the pack of a cooling tower should be removed during the 6 monthly clean and disinfection process to ensure it is satisfactorily cleaned along with the rest of the cooling tower. Some older towers and some towers bought from outside the UK do not give adequate ready access to the pack, distribution systems and the drift eliminators thus making routine pack removal exceedingly problematical.
