Redox Tech - Anaerobic BioChem (ABC) Green Substrate
In 2003, Redox Tech introduced its proprietary formulation for anaerobic biodegradation of halogenated solvents in groundwater. The product, Anaerobic BioChem or ABC®, is a patented mixture of lactates, fatty acids, alcohols, and a phosphate buffer. ABC® contains soluble lactic acid as well as slow- and long-term releasing components. Redox Tech was one of the first companies to recognize the importance of maintaining optimum pH for bacterial growth. For that reason, ABC® has always had a phosphate buffer and other alkaline materials, when necessary, to help maintain optimal pH. The phosphate buffer also serves as a micronutrient for bioremediation.
Redox Tech - Oxygen BioChem
Recent applications of in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) have shown that ISCO can be a cost-effective remedial strategy for organic contaminants in groundwater and soil. The application of ISCO to contaminated source areas usually results in an immediate benefit to groundwater in the area. In addition, further contaminant flux can be reduced or eliminated, mitigating additional contaminant plume issues. Redox Tech has recently formulated a mixture of sodium persulfate and calcium peroxide that can be employed for ISCO applications using FMC’s Klozur™ activation chemistry.
Redox Tech - Sulfate BioChem
SBC is a cost-effective and extremely safe option for in situ treatment of petroleum compounds. Some situations are not appropriate for ISCO because of high oxidant demand or sensitive underground utilities. As an alternative to ISCO we have developed Sulfate BioChem (SBC), which works with naturally reducing conditions to promote the anaerobic biological oxidation of organic compounds. The primary constituent is magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts), which is exceptionally safe and won’t damage pipes or utilities. It is also relatively inexpensive compared to oxidants. Because it is so safe and soluble, SBC can be easily injected. SBC is so safe and cost-effective that many of our customers apply SBC to open excavations after removing a petroleum tank as a precaution.
RedoxTech - Permanganate (Carus Chemicals)
Permanganate (Carus Chemicals) is now widely accepted for oxidation of chlorinated alkenes, such as PCE and TCE, plus their daughter products. Permanganate does not directly oxidize chlorinated alkanes, such as TCA, nor does it oxidize benzene.
Redox Tech - pH NuBuff
Redox Tech provides its pH buffer as a stand-alone product based on market demand. Redox Tech has added this buffer to its carbon amendment for over a decade. Proper pH is crucial to sustain and enhance biological remediation in the subsurface. Organisms require an environment that supports their growth, reproduction, and overall survival. We have developed a water-soluble formula called NuBuff that can be applied in the subsurface by injection, soil mixing, or direct excavation application. NuBuff not only modifies and sustains pH within the desired range (~6-8), it also provides essential nutrients for micro-organisms.
Redox Tech - Zero Valent Iron
Redox Tech sells zero valent iron (ZVI) in super sacks (1000 Kg) and 25 kg buckets. Our ZVI is made from molten iron ore in a specialized process. Part of the ZVI from the process is used to iron fortify foods, so our ZVI is essentially a food-grade product. Other suppliers produce ZVI by milling, grinding, and sieving scrap iron (from things such as old car frames and bodies). As a result, those supplies can have higher levels of undesirable metals and some petroleum residuals. Below is a typical chemical analysis of the ZVI we sell.
Redox Tech - Bioaugmentation For The Treatment of Chlorinated Ethenes
Redox Tech has experience with chemical oxidation (Fenton’s chemistry, permanganate, persulfate, and ozone), bioremediation (biosparging, cometabolic, sodium lactate (ABC®) and biostimulation), and metals treatment via eH-pH manipulation. We now offer bio-augmentation solutions for sites lacking adequate indigenous bacterial populations to achieve full remediation.
Redox Tech - Bioavailable Absorbent Media
Redox Tech is a co-marketer of Orin’s BAM, which is a robust and cost-effective contaminant sponge. It is an engineered carbon-based product made from biomass. BAM’s absorption ability or sponge like effect, comes from its unique and diverse honeycomb- structure. The particle geometry creates pores or openings within the structure that allows for contaminants to be drawn in and retained. This unique ability prevents exterior surface microfilm buildup that allows BAM to continually absorb contaminants. The absorption capacity can be continuously refreshed when BAM is combined with other products such as ABC® + and OBC™.
Redox Tech - Anaerobic BioChem (ABC) Formula
ABC+ is an enhanced version of our industry-proven Anaerobic Biochem (ABC) formula, promoting anaerobic biodegradation and reductive dechlorination of halogenated solvents in groundwater. Anaerobic Biochem Plus (ABC+) is a mixture of our ABC formula and Zero Valent Iron (ZVI). Formulated and mixed on a site-by-site basis, up to fifty percent (50%) by weight of ZVI can be added. ZVI has been proven and widely accepted as an effective in situ remediation technology of chlorinated solvents such as TCA, PCE, TCE, and daughter products. The degradation process using ZVI is an abiotic reductive dechlorination process occurring on the surface of the granular iron, with the iron acting as an electron donor.
