Environmental Remediation

Soil, Sediment & Sludge Remediation Services

RECON is an industry leader in soil and sludge stabilization and solidification, having treated over 6 million cubic yards of material. Our employees have hands-on experience with dozens of different reagents, including our patented reagent blend (Muck Mix). RECON has entered into long-term contracts with major reagent and transportation vendors to ensure competitive rates and a steady supply of product. Reagents can be delivered to jobsite by truck, rail, or barge and offloaded with the most efficient material handling equipment commercially available.

Groundwater Control Treatment Services

RECON is an internationally recognized slurry trench contractor, having installed over 11,000,000 square feet of slurry trench. Company-owned and customized equipment gives us the capability of excavating 100-feet deep trenches with hydraulic excavators, and over 100-feet with hydraulic clams. Specialized equipment including long-reach excavators, custom buckets, desanders, clam buckets, cranes, and high-speed colloidal mixers. The specialized nature of this work allows us to be competitive even on relatively small projects.

Geotechnical Construction

Soil Mixing Services

Soil Mixing is a construction technique that uses the introduction of an engineered grout or reagent to modify the physical or chemical characteristics of soil without excavating. The intent is to modify the soil so that its properties become similar to that of a soft rock, such as clay, shale, or lightly cemented sandstone. Augers are used to mix cement with the existing soil to form a soilcrete mixture. The technique has numerous civil and environmental applications and can use a wide range of mixing equipment. Soil mixing is also commonly used as a stabilization or in-situ fixation method for building and bridge foundations, retaining structures, liquefaction mitigation, temporary support of excavation and water control. Other soil mixing applications include containing hazardous wastes and sludges.

Concrete Diaphragm Walls Services

Diaphragm walls are commonly used in congested areas for retention systems and permanent foundation walls. They can be installed in close proximity to existing structures with minimal loss of support to existing foundations. In addition, construction dewatering is not required, so there is no associated subsidence. Diaphragm walls are created by removing and replacing in-situ soil with a material of known characteristics. A series of deep, intersecting, rectangular trenches are excavated in the soil or rock, and are subsequently filled with material of controlled quality, which forms a structural support wall. Diaphragm walls have been used as deep groundwater barriers through, and under dams. In some applications, they are constructed with a non-reinforced plastic concrete material.

Civil Construction

Site Development Services

The development of a construction site during civil construction projects can include the hydraulic and mechanical dredging of adjacent waterways; dewatering of onsite ponds and impoundments; and installing wick drains to control groundwater intrusions. Final site development activities typically include final site grading, development of permanent roadways and laydown yards, and the installation of underground utilities.RECON was contracted to prepare a site for the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal on a dredge spoil pile with low bearing capacity soils.

Earthwork Construction Services

Movement of dirt on civil construction projects is used to construct dikes, dams, levees, detention ponds, reservoirs, relocation, consolidation, site balance, and slope stability. Compacted clay, HDPE liners, geotextiles, geocomposites, fills, soil, and vegetative covers can be incorporated into these structures.
