Mechanical fastening is perfectly suited for lightweight, metal deck structures for large industrial buildings, warehouses, logistic centres, etc. It can, however, also be applied on concrete structures or wooden decks. The roofing membrane is fastened to the substrate along the longitudinal edges by means of pressure plates and screws. Wind load calculations can accurately determine the exact number of fasteners to be used in order to avoid any risk of wind uplift. The RENOLIT ALKORPLAN F membrane for mechanical fastening has a woven polyester reinforcing, which makes the membrane even more resistant.

A ballasted or protected roof implies that the roofing membrane is not fixed nor adhered to the roof structure. The membrane is loose-laid and covered with gravel, paving slabs, substrate etc… Obviously, the ballast offers a good protection against wind uplift. It also protects the membrane against direct stress caused by temperature fluctuations, punctures, tears, etc. but also against ageing, as the membrane is not exposed to UV radiation. Thanks to the glass fleece reinforcing, the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN L membrane has an excellent dimensional stability. A simple and fast installation without glue or fasteners and regardless of weather conditions, is undoubtedly an advantage. The seams are hot air welded at the overlap with either manual or automatic welding equipment.

On roofs where mechanical fastening is difficult (concrete structures) or even not possible, the waterproofing membrane can be adhered to the roof deck. No matter whether the structure is a wood, concrete or steel deck. This system is recommended in cases where the vapour control layer cannot be perforated, such as indoor swimming pools and buildings with a high interior humidity.  It is also advisable to adhere on e.g. refrigerated or cool buildings, as mechanical fasteners might cause thermal bridging problems and thus moisture-related damage.

Renolit Alkorplan Metallics Flexible Roofing Membranes With A Metallic (Aluminium/Silver And Copper) Appearance.
