Big Beaver - Portable Auger Drill

The Beaver works on the same principle as a truck mounted drill rig. However, with its modular format and compact size, it can get into places you could only imagine. The mast can be wheeled around the site on its16-inch tires in a lowered position (36-inches high by 26-inches wide) and tips upright to drill (80-inches high). With its 450-pound weight, obstacles such as a steep slope and stairs are manageable with a simple pulley system and a few strong hands to guide it. For added weight, an anchoring system adds down-force as required. The power pack can be attached directly for outside work or operate remotely on long hoses up to 100-feet away for inside jobs. Its 20-HP Honda engine helps produce 600-ft lbs of torque, with 3000 lbs of pullback force. All hydraulics are vegetable based for peace of mind in the event of any spillage. The Beaver is set-up to operate 41/2` solid-stem augers or up to 8` OD Hollow-stem augers.

Pionjar Portable Hammer Drill

The Pionjar is a versatile tool that is powerful, portable and versatile. This 70-pound tool pulls double duty as both a rock-drill and hammer/breaker. This means you can use it to both core through concrete and drive a split-spoon to depth for sampling. Both 2 & 3-inch split-spoon samplers are available to retrieve continuous cores to depths of up to 25-feet. The Pionjar is also used for tailings and sediments sampling programs. In tailings, depths of over 100-feet* are possible and sediment up to 30-feet depending on technique and conditions.

Bosch Portable Hammer Drill - Electric

The Bosch is the solution for inside and confined sampling. With essentially the same power as the Pionjar, and zero emissions, it is the method of choice for drilling indoors. Typically, our concrete coring machine cuts through the concrete and then the appropriate sampling technique is hammered down with the Bosch.

Concrete Coring Equipment With Vacuum Collection System

Usually when you add water to a drilling system, it gets quite messy. Concrete coring needs water to cool the diamond blade and flush-out waste. In an effort to make this as neat as possible, we use a water collection system that surrounds the unit and vacuums up any spillage. This means there is no mess to worry about. Cores are available from 3-inch to 10-inch diameter. For simple jobs, a 3-inch hole is all that is required prior to advancing a 2-inch split-spoon. In some situations you may want to install a steel flush-mount cover for a monitoring well or hand excavate a bit for unknowns, in which case either an 8 or 10-inch core is used.

Underwater Vibracorer

Rocky Mountain Soil Sampling has recently acquired a Rossfelder Underwater Electrical Vibracorer. Working from a suitable boat, this system can be used in water over 100 feet deep to collect continuous core samples. Cores barrels are three or four inch diameter and can be up to twenty feet long depending on your application. Several choices in core barrel materials are available including Stainless Steel and Aluminum as well as clear plastic core liners. The Rocky Mountain Vibracorer uses Contra-rotating Dual-eccentrics and High-frequency vibrations of 8,000 VPM, and is ideally suited for sampling the unconsolidated sediments of a marine environment. Power is from a small generator with waterproof cables and extraction by means of a small winch or crane system. If your program happens to be in a remote site, the equipment is portable enough that we could use `Vessels of Opportunity` if necessary.

Hydro Vacuum Excavator

Rocky Mountain Soil Sampling now offers Vacuum Services for safely exposing underground utilities visually prior to drilling. No longer are you limited to trusting potentially inaccurate drawings or geophysical surveys. Our trailer mounted Vermeer E550 uses either dry suction or high-pressure water to quickly evacuate and clear a borehole to depth. Its powerful 500 CFM pump and 550-gallon holding tank is ready to tackle just about any job. Hose extensions allow work to be completed up to 75-feet away from the unit. Options available with this system include Concrete Coring, Jackhammers for asphalt cutting and Sampling tools for taking scoops along the walls of the hole. Cuttings are typically placed in drums on site or used for backfill. This rig is available separately or in conjunction with drilling work.

Portable SPT/ DCPT Tripod

A tripod mounted Standard Penetration Testing system. Provides geo-technical measurements of a soils resistance. Portable design allows transport into remote sites. 140 lb hammer uses same technique as larger rigs. The Pionjar drilling system can also be used in conjunction with the tripod methods for quickly determining the depth of certain soil types or bedrock using our custom drive tips.
