A face fit test is a simple test which checks whether a person’s mask fits their face shape and size. According to guidance from the Health and Safety Executive, tight-fitting respirators (including disposable FFP3 masks and reusable half masks) rely on having a good seal with the wearer’s face in order to be fully effective. A face fit test should be carried out to ensure the respiratory protective equipment (RPE) can protect the wearer. Guidance for COSHH, CLaW and CAW also recommends face fit testing as a method of ensuring an adequate face seal.
