Flagship Passive Acoustic Monitoring System
Our flagship Passive Acoustic Monitoring system is extensively deployed worldwide. It is robust, reliable and available at short notice in a number of configurations. Towed PAM is able to detect, localise and track vocalizing marine mammals in real-time. It is vital for mitigation during hours of darkness and poor visibility. The base system comprises an array cable of 250m, deck cable, audio processing unit, computer and headphones. PAMGuard software is integrated as standard to aid detection and localization of marine mammals The system can readily be configured to suit the project. A heavy tow 230m cable with a detachable array section of 20m may be preferred for harsh environments. A networked system can enable monitoring from the most convenient location onboard. Frequency response, within a range of 20Hz and 200kHz, can also be customised for species of interest and optimal performance. Equipment is provided with 100% back-up.
Platforms
Acoustic Monitoring Buoy
This product is ideal for harsh offshore environments. Once deployed, the buoy system can run autonomously and enables acoustic signals to be amplified and radio transmitted in real-time for processing at a receiving station. It can be switched on and off remotely as required to extend battery life. Flexible and easily transportable, our buoy system is designed to be modular so it can be customised as required. The system consists of a buoy flotation unit, electronics, batteries, hydrophones plus a transmitter and receiving unit. We can also provide a GPS unit, radar reflector and warning light. The buoy can operate as a single monitoring unit or as multiple units deployed around a source.
Pam-Cat
The PAM-CAT is a versatile system designed for operations in challenging environments, including very shallow water and transition zones, such as in complex lagoon waterways. PAM-CAT is installed on rafts that are readily packed and transported, and that can be either moored on a long-term basis or towed behind a vessel. The platform payload can include battery units, mast and antenna as well as transmission, processing and recording units. Solar power can also be added. Other options include: Seiche W-PAM system, for real-time transmission back to a support vessel or shore-based station. Seiche digital recording system, to log data for offline analysis.

Digital Thin Line Array
Seiche’s Digital Thin Line Array is a high-performance, low-noise acoustic array that provides highly sensitive passive acoustic monitoring. The array measures just 20 mm in diameter and houses 8 digital hydrophone sensors, but can be configured for up to 32. The topside electronics are contained within a compact, robust housing. Each hydrophone sensor incorporates a miniature low-noise amplifier and 20 bit A/D converter. A high signal-to-noise ratio is achieved through digitizing the signal before transmission. Sensors are configurable in real time to enable gain and low-cut filters to be adjusted. Specific frequencies, for example aircraft locator beacons, can be targeted for detection. Real-time data can be transmitted onward over Ethernet for display and/or processing. Modules are positioned at key points within the array to acquire environmental and orientation data, including: 3-axis compass, attitude, pressure and temperature (CAPT).
Acoustic Deterrent Device
Seiche provides the Lofitech acoustic deterrent device (ADD), a highly effective system that can be employed to discourage marine mammals from approaching an area where man-made sound such as construction or exploration may cause impacts to marine mammals. Warning away seals, porpoises and dolphins ensures the animals’ wellbeing and enables commercial operations to continue. The system consists of a simple to install and operate control unit and transducer which can be conducted by on-site employees with full support and guidance from our experts. The ADD includes remote activation capabilities.
