Onshore Wind

Environmental Services

Many onshore wind farm sites are developed in remote locations and developers are often keen to ensure that minimal disruption to the environment occurs. This is why SgurrEnergy’s environmental team gets involved in projects to assess and review potential impacts to ensure that all aspects of the site’s surrounding environment is considered. We provide a broad variety of environmental services for renewable energy projects at all stages of development and operation, including: Environmental and social impact assessment, Planning including post-consent services as part of a technical advisor role, Environmental management systems including SEMP, ESAP, ESMP, EMMP, Environmental and social due diligence, Construction and operational monitoring. Some recent work that we’ve done with onshore clients has entailed bird impacts, landscape and visual impact reviews, GIS-mapping of environmental constraints, steep slopes analysis and much more.

Noise impact assessments (NIA)

Noise impact assessments (NIA) are an essential part of the planning process for renewable energy developments and our expert noise team has the capability to conduct assessments at all stages of the project lifecycle. The team is experienced in acting as due diligence assessor for banks and lending institutions who have noise considerations as part of renewable energy investments. We have worked on NIAs for wind power projects globally, representing over a gigawatt of capacity. As part of this, we have conducted noise assessments for some of the largest onshore wind farms, including Whitelee wind farm, the UK’s largest onshore wind farm, as well as for power stations, overhead lines, substations and non-energy projects.

Meteorological Masts

With over ten years’ experience and a proven track record in wind energy consultancy, SgurrEnergy can provide a range of turnkey wind monitoring services for proposed wind farm sites. Our met mast services include: The selection of met mast location on site, The design and supply of met masts and measurement equipment, International met mast installation, Secure and regular data recovery and monthly reporting. Our mast package includes a selection of mast designs ranging from 10m to 90m in height, including our flagship SgurrMetMast which can be installed with all necessary monitoring instrumentation to suit the requirements of your wind farm project. SgurrEnergy’s in-house installation team will ensure that no matter your choice of wind monitoring mast, it will be installed to the highest of safety standards. In addition to wind measurement met masts, SgurrEnergy also offer lidar wind monitoring services.

Meteorological Mast Services

SgurrEnergy can support you through every stage of your wind resource assessment from initial site visits through to mast and instrumentation supply and installation to data recovery, reporting and decommissioning.

Remote Sensing Services

Remote sensing devices such as Galion Lidar offer wind farm developers powerful new options for assessing the wind resource at proposed or operational wind farm sites. They are a compact, portable, robust alternative to a traditional meteorological mast, which can be installed on a temporary and economic basis, with minimal impact and no requirement for planning permission. This makes them the clear choice for shorter deployments, either as part of a wider wind measurement campaign, or for a short term wind data set, e.g. noise impact assessments.
