Water Control Gates

Crest Gates for Water Level Control & Trash Sluicing

The Crest Gate stands as a spillway-style mechanism designed for precise water level control and efficient debris sluicing. Its construction features a reinforced leaf, anchored with bottom hinges affixed to the waterway floor. Movement is achieved by rotating around these hinges, allowing seamless opening and closing operations. In the lowered position, the gate leaf seamlessly conforms to the spillway crest profile. Typically, operational control is facilitated by a hydraulic cylinder, strategically mounted on an adjacent pier. For longer Crest Gates, a hydraulic cylinder at each end ensures optimal performance. Alternatively, cylinders can be positioned under the gate or within a vault, connected to the hinged torque tube, a configuration aptly referred to as a Torque Tube Crest Gate. This innovative design ensures versatile and efficient water flow management, making the Crest Gate a reliable solution for diverse hydraulic control needs.

Roller Gates

Roller gates are vertical lift gates with a series of rollers or wheels located along each side of the leaf. The rollers transfer hydraulic load from the gate to the roller tracks mounted in the guide slots on each side of the gate opening. The wheels minimize friction forces when raising and lowering the gate which in turn reduces the load on the gate operating system. Roller Gates are typically used where opening sizes are too large to efficiently use slide gates or for applications where gravity closure is a requirement. They are usually hydraulically operated to accommodate gravity closure but can also be operated electrically using either an electric actuator or wire rope drum hoist.

Slide Gates

Slide Gates consist of a flat structurally reinforced gate leaf with polymer bearing surfaces and perimeter seals for operation vertically within a gate frame. Slide gates may be operated with hydraulic cylinders or a screw stem system using manual gearboxes or electric actuators.

Tainter Radial Gates

Tainter (Radial) Gates consist of a curved skinplate reinforced by horizontal or vertical stiffening ribs and supported by radial arms on each side of the gate. Tainter gates are commonly used for flood control on spillways where vertical lift gates are impractical. The operating machinery is located above the tainter gate and typically includes wire rope hoists, chain or drum hoists, or hydraulic cylinders to allow for full travel with minimal overhead super structure.

Bulkheads and Stop Logs

Bulkheads and Stop Logs are typically used to dewater structures for maintenance and installed in balanced head conditions. Where bulkhead gates are installed in one piece panels, stop logs are furnished in multiple sections for ease of handling and installation.

Floating Bulkhead Gates

Steel-Fab floating bulkheads consist of a series of sealed caissons with integral ballast chambers that can be filled with water or pressurized with air. The caissons are assembled on the impoundment and then the appropriate ballast chambers are filled with water to vertically lower the bulkhead into position in front of the corresponding spillway gate. For removal, the chambers are vacated with air allowing the bulkhead to be removed from the spillway face and translated vertically to the next gate opening or brought to the surface.

Jet-Flow Gates

Jet-flow gates are similar to high pressure bonneted slide gates and are used as regulating gates under free or submerged discharge conditions. The combination of a circular seat ring and floating seal ring upstream of the gate leaf concentrate the discharge flow into a jet with minimal cavitation or vibration. Jet Flow Gates are typically operated with hydraulic cylinders but can also use a screw stem arrangement with an extended bonnet.

Broome Gates

Broome Gates, also known as Caterpillar Gates, are roller-mounted vertical lift gates supported along either side by a continuous series of stainless steel rollers. Otherwise, their construction and function is very similar to that of Roller Gates. Broome gates feature a sloped sealing surface. However, if the sealing surface is vertical, they are sometimes called Coaster or Tractor gates.

Valves

Fixed Cone Valves

Fixed Cone Valves are used for free discharge energy dissipating applications to perform regulating or control functions under full pressure, high flow conditions.
