Water Supply Services

Water Supply

Water supply is a major focus of our environmental division. We provide a complete range of supply, storage, pumping, distribution, treatment, security, and supervisory system control services, from planning phase, through design, and into construction. In addition, we offer comprehensive water system study and distribution system analyses, vulnerability assessments, water loss, distribution and water quality modeling, field investigations, loan and financing issues, plus other specialty studies.

Wastewater Services

Wastewater Treatment

One of our primary focuses is wastewater treatment plant engineering. We provide planning, design, and construction engineering for our wastewater treatment customers. Included among our designs are numerous advanced and secondary treatment plants, land and water body discharge systems, physical and biological nutrient removal systems; and biosolids management facilities employing aerobic and anaerobic digestion, dewatering with all contemporary dewatering devices, beneficial reuse, contract disposal; and approximately 80 plants that involved upgrading/expansion/modifications to an existing facility.

Wastewater Modeling Services

We have extensive experience with dynamic modeling of hydraulically-complex wastewater collection systems. Models we use include XPSWMM, Hydra, and simple spreadsheets. The impact of wet-weather events (rainfall and snow melt) upon the hydraulic operating characteristics of wastewater conveyance systems are universally understood to be adverse.

Municipal/General Civil

Municipal/General Civil Services

As municipal engineers, our firm’s involvement with local governments varies with the needs of each community. For many, we serve as the designated city or village engineer providing comprehensive engineering services, including attending public meetings and assisting planning commissions; for others, we act as consultants on an as-needed basis. To meet these needs, we have a staff of specialized municipal engineers who are supported by the expertise of a complete, full-service environmental and civil consulting engineering firm.

Geographic Information Systems Services

Geographic Information Systems and computerized mapping focus on two broad arenas. The first arena manages facilities and records. It links databases such as tax records, water billing addresses, sewer locations, and other types of infrastructure records to a “map”. By joining the powers of a database with the visual comprehension offered by a map, enormous potential is unleashed for facilities management and presentation of information. For example, sewer manholes needing repair can be queried, plotted, and used as a base for the current year’s maintenance program. Pavement conditions can be inventoried and evaluated, and a 10- to 15-year maintenance program developed. Landowners affected by a water main repair can be notified by mail prior to the repair. These are just a few examples of how GIS can help municipalities and organizations take information they already manage and put it to greater use.

Green Infrastructure Solutions

Green Infrastructure Solutions

Our Green Infrastructure Solutions group draws from all of our areas of expertise — wastewater, stormwater, municipal, transportation, water supply, and buildings and facilities — to provide specialized services that meet the continually evolving needs of today’s clients.  Whether it’s stormwater best management practices, sustainable combined sewer overflow reduction, reduced energy usage, or green transportation design we have the resources to provide creative, logical, sustainable solutions to efficiently meet each client’s green infrastructure needs.

Sustainable planning Services

We have distinguished ourselves as national leaders in sustainable planning, particularly as it relates to regional master planning efforts targeting issues such as combined sewer overflow reduction, stormwater management, transportation networks, and community revitalization.

Transportation

Transportation Services

Our transportation services include planning, designing, and administering construction of local streets and rural highways, major urban arterials, U.S. and state highways, tollways, and the interstate system. Services on these projects have involved traffic analysis and modeling, alternative development, structures, pavements, utilities, lighting, traffic signals, stormwater management, and green initiative systems. Our staff has the expertise to provide quality plans and specifications, and the reports, environmental assessments, and special studies that state and federal procedures require.
