Integrity monitoring is currently a labour intensive process , expensive to carry out and still may not provide the data needed. MASiP is a new pipeline system which offers a new approach to digital pipeline integrity management. Spirally wound optical fibre is embedded in the structure of a new type of flexible pipe. This provides a very intimate connection to pipe behaviour making real time monitoring of pressure temperature, stress / strain, vibrations, etc., possible for every 0.2m of the pipe. Pig tracking, locating stuck pigs and optimising pig cleaning schedules are all facilitated. This has the potential to reduce the pigging schedule by being better informed of what is going on in the pipe.

MASiP Pipe system delivers a real time monitoring solution to mitigate integrity threats. Pipelines must adhere to regular statutory inspections, verifications and certifications. According to strict requirements, operators must be able to demonstrate and document the integrity of their pipelines at all times. MASiP Pipe System integrated with a Pipeline Integrity Management System enables real time assessment of associated risks and implements measures to predict, prevent and swiftly mitigate consequential failure. Full 3D Finite Element Models have been built and more than 50 cases run to fully characterize the detailed behavior of the pipe structure to an element resolution of 1mm. This includes characterization of the steel interlock, axial, radial, bending, pressure cycling, hydrogen gas permeation, end fittings and liner pipe behaviour. 3D models are fully non-linear.
